👩🏼‍🎓 Testimonial by King's Ely grandparents, Mr and Mrs Bird 👨🏾‍🎓

"Eden joined King’s Ely Senior in Year 9 in September 2021, and it was by far the best decision that we could have made. Her academic achievements, performance opportunities, confidence, and overall happiness and enthusiasm for life are testament to this.

"When she was four-years-old, Eden announced that she wanted to be on the stage. This came as no surprise to us as she had performed in her first pantomime the previous Christmas and could not stop talking about it! Also, we knew she was awake each morning when we could hear her singing. King’s was the perfect choice for us because of the strong reputation of its Music and Drama Departments.

"Having experienced flexi-boarding at her Prep School in Hunstanton, Glebe House School, Eden settled into Wendreda House at King's quickly, and when she moved into Hill House for Sixth Form she became Deputy Head of House - a role she loved, especially organising the House Music Competition!

"Eden has dyslexia, but with help from Learning Support and extra time for her exams, she has achieved good A-Level results and developed strategies for learning that will last a lifetime.

"Sixth Form has been the highlight of Eden's time at King’s. She became a Dance Scholar and a Prefect, and focused on her Drama, Film Studies, and Textiles A-Level subjects. But it is not all work! She has enjoyed the friendship of her contemporaries and the many Sixth Form Social events. In her Textiles studies, she reached the finals of the Stitch Festival’s National Fashion Awards at the Business Design Centre in London.

"The Drama, Dance, and Music provision at King’s is second to none. The theatre masterclasses, Chapel Choir Tour to Seville, singing at St Paul’s Cathedral, and public dance opportunities have all added to her amazing experiences. Eden has sung regularly in the Cathedral, won Senior Commercial Singer of the Year in the Vocal Competition, and the Huntington Trophy for Drama.

"Her theatrical and musical journey has been supported by the outstanding teaching at King’s. The staff are dedicated, inspirational, and encouraging. Eden not only achieved a Distinction in her Grade 8 Trinity Acting exam, but she also developed her triple-threat talent and has been offered a place to start this September at Italia Conti to study Musical Theatre.

"We would recommend King’s to anyone looking for a high-quality education in a safe, caring environment with opportunities to excel in the performing and creative arts. For our family, the experience at King’s has been life-changing and none of this would have been possible without the bursary support that King’s provided. We remain incredibly grateful to the school."

Sixteen pupils from all corners of the globe also received their results yesterday (August 20th), having studied the one-year IGCSE programme here at King’s! 🎓

The two-term intensive course sees young people studying in their non-native speaking language, and the average number of subjects taken is six.

We are delighted to report another excellent set of IGCSE grades, with an overall pass rate of 84%. More than half of all results were Grade 6 and above, with five subjects achieving a 100% pass rate. Three students achieved Grades 9-6 in all their subjects.

Mr Matthew Norbury, Director for International Students at King’s Ely, said: “These results are testimony to the students’ focused efforts and the incredible support they receive from academic and pastoral staff. These international students arrive in England for the first time ever in September and without the presence of their friends and family go on to successfully sit their IGCSEs in an education system they had never experienced before; every year I remain humbled by and proud of their integrity and achievements.”

We look forward to seeing the majority of these pupils returning to King's in a couple of weeks time to start their A-Level studies! 🙌🏼
