I have met many children in my life who work incredibly hard to learn to read and spell, children who never give up no matter what. If reading and spelling comes naturally to you then take a moment to think what it would be like to learn 44 different sounds, one by one, and the multitude of spelling rules that go with our language.

Just to write the paragraph above the brain would need to remember and recall approximately 49 different spelling patterns and rules at speed. ( I'm sure there are more so please don't correct me!) So when you want a child to write a story or take an exam think about all the extra skills that are needed on top and ask them what they need to make it easier for them.

So if they are not giving up, neither am I.

This is a subject close to my heart 🤍both my children have dyslexia and myself. Most people focus on dyslexia as a negative thing and class dyslexia people as stupid and lazy.
But I want to explain what dyslexia is and it’s not something to be ashamed of as in fact it’s your super power!

🤍 1 in 5 people are dyslexic
🤍Dyslexia is genetic and runs in family’s
🤍A dyslexia brain processes information differently
🤍It’s a brain base issue which makes it harder to read accurately and fluently
🤍Dyslexia is not a problem with intelligence, children with dyslexia are just as smart as their peers.
🤍Their brain works ten times as hard as a non-dyslexic person,

My children are visual learners and learn best through multi sensory activities as these types of activities help a dyslexia person learn best and remember information better.

P O P - I T S P E L L I N G

Did you know Pop Its are great learning tools? There are so many ways you can use it, today I’m excited to share how we used it for Kai’s spelling words.

We practiced spelling words by popping the letters.
I used a chalk pen to write the letters onto the pop-it, I read the spelling words out and then Kai had to spell them out!
