Mereside Maths Tuition Maths tuition in preparation for SATS and for ongoing Secondary school lessons leading to GCSE exams I like to tutor in a very relaxed and friendly manner.

I am a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (with a Maths Specialism) in the Maths Department of a Secondary school and work with all ages from Year 7 up to Year 11. I have been teaching small groups, mainly at GCSE level (Foundation) for 5 years and privately tutoring for just over 6 years and have had many students achieve their goals during this time. There is no 'right' way to do anything and very often there are several routes to an answer. My emphasis is on finding the way that the tutee finds easiest to understand and then build on that. No house will stand up on wobbly foundations! Most of the work done with GCSE tutees is done using an 'Example' note book for revision purposes and on exam style questions to get them used to the style and in tune with what the Exam boards look for in an answer.

It is that bittersweet time of year when I start saying goodbye to my Year 11 students, some of whom I have been supporting for 4 years.
I feel so privileged to be given the opportunity to work with these wonderful human beings, some of them for 4 years! Watching them flourish and reach their true potential makes my job so worth while.

However, as some doors close, others open meaning I can welcome new students to Mereside Maths.

I am reducing my availability this next academic year due to personal commitments but, once I have allocated lessons to the students on my waiting list, I will still have 3 spaces left.

If you feel you have or know of a student who would be interested in some extra help in their Maths studies to ensure that all important Grade 4 pass or if they are aspiring to improve their grades, pleas do not hesitate to get in touch for more information. :-)

Exam season is now in full force.
Maths paper 1 was yesterday and my students all gave very positive feedback to me on both papers which is lovely to hear. This shows that they were all well prepared :-)

My thoughts now also turn to my Year 11's leaving me in a few weeks which is always a bitter sweet time but it also means that I will be in a position to welcome new students.

For several reasons I am cutting back on my availability this coming academic year but there will still be 4 lessons left once I have accommodated the students on my current waiting list.

Well, today is the start of the Maths GCSE exams.
Once again, the students that I have been given the privilege to work with this year have worked their socks off and all deserve to do so well.
Just remember:-
*read the questions very carefully
*highlight the key points in the question
*show ALL your working out *make sure that you have actually given the answer that is required.
*NEVER leave a question blank.....the most simple calculation could give you an all important working mark.

For today's non calculator question don't do anything in your head....too easy to make simple mistakes and you need to show your working out for your marks!

Here we are again at the start of a New Academic year 2025/26. How quickly do these seem to come around!

All of my 1:1 spaces are now fully booked for the foreseeable future.

Due to demand, I am now adding a Yr11 Foundation Group with a maximum of 4 slots.
This will be on a Wednesday evening at 4:50 online via Zoom.

Saying farewell to all the Year 11 students at this time of year always leaves me feeling a bit low and flat as they become such a huge part of my life. This is always counteracted by being able to welcome new students into my 'flock' to start the process all over again.
I am passionate about my work and love to see these youngsters grow and progress. It really could not be any more rewarding than it already is for me.
A previous student once told me that his Dad had once said to him 'Choose a job that you love and then you will never work a day in your life' This is so true and it always resonates in me and I often quote it to my students!
Yesterday, I was given this by a student which says it all really. All I ever want for them is to enjoy their learning journey with me and above all, success and in this case (and with others I hope) not just with their Maths skills.
Thank you ***** for such a lovely card and really making me feel so proud of all I do here at Mereside Maths. (and for making me cry in front of your friends 🤣)

Well, today is the BIG day that I’ve been worked towards with all my Year 11 students.
I don’t think I have ever had such a hard working group before as I’ve had this year and they are such a CREDIT to their parents. They all deserve to do so well. I feel so privileged to have supported them on their Maths journey and to have got to know them all so well.

You all know your stuff so go into that exam room, take a deep breath and show us all what superstars you all all. 🌟
Remember, read the questions carefully and ensure you have given the answer in the form they require, show ALL your working, as marks are given for all sorts of things and NEVER leave a question blank…..something can get a mark, a blank gets none!
Go for it Meresiders! You’ve got this 😁😁🌟

Due to a last minute 'change of start time' I now have an after school lesson available for either mid June or September start. Saturday lessons still available for commencement in September including spaces in a small group ( maximum of 4) concentrating on those all important Grade 4 topics.

Its that time of year again when I start to allocate places with Mereside Maths from the waiting list.
This year, demand has already filled all my evening lessons.
From mid June, the only availability I will have will be on a Saturday.
