What’s your views on meetings?
Do you speak in meetings with Confidence and Authority?
Meetings are important opportunities to show others what you know, how you think and what you are like. In many cases, meetings are where your colleagues and senior managers will spend the most time with you. Yet speaking up at meetings can be stressful and pressure filled. You are “on show” and have to perform at your best. This feeling of discomfort is common when you are new to a team , role or company.
It can be nerve wracking to put your points across and speak in large gathering and when it is with a group of very experienced people and subject matter experts that only adds to the nerves.
Consider these steps to speak with confidence and authority.
1. Defuse your fear by ensuring you are prepared and have reviewed the agenda and are comfortable with the discussion points.
2. Prepare your mindset. Be positive. There is no silly question ask it anyway.
3. Get straight to the point,
4. Practice out loud privately.
5. be a good listener and make sure your contribution is relevant.
If you struggle with confidence and speaking up, let me hear your comments on this post.
