The first Forest School of the new school year was a very wet one today! Our new Pre-School class visited Mirehouse Ponds and learned what it's like to be a squirrel in Autumn, hunting under Hazel trees for fallen nuts and later hiding them around the Forest School area. Next time we visit the ponds we plan to check our hiding places to see whether the nuts are still there or have been stolen by hungry squirrels. The children were surprised to find gorse with no flowers and all remembered how to handle them gently to avoid prickles. Later, we walked along the pond and looked for fish but found all the ripples caused by the rain made this task impossible. Pre-School enjoyed lunch in the forest, sheltering under a tarp to stop our sandwiches from getting soggy, then on the way back to the bus we FINALLY saw our first signets of the year- all the more exciting because the ones we watched for at Longlands all summer never made an appearance.

In the Baby Room this week, we have been reading the story "Animal Boogie." We explored our musical instruments and discovered that some items from our curiosity basket could also be used as musical instruments. For example, two halves of coconut shells create a clip-clop noise like a horse. We made a stage using our wooden blocks and had our own boogie while singing nursery rhymes

Preschool and Tweenies teamed up today to walk across Egremont and pick apples from the nearby trees. We talked about how to tell if an apple has spoiled and made sure we chose only the nicer ones. On the way back we spotted some bramble bushes, so we had to take advantage of the free snack and forage some blackberries too! Back at Nursery we discovered the apples were quite sour but after stewing them with some cinnamon and honey the children found them much more palatable.

🌊🌳 **BEACH & FOREST SCHOOL PRESCHOOL PLACES AVAILABLE**

Did you know your child doesn't have to attend Little Learners full-time to be part of our Beach & Forest School?

We currently have a small number of spaces available in our **Preschool for children aged 3+**, and families can choose to attend us for just **one or two days a week** and use the rest of their funded hours with another setting.

We are very happy to support children who attend **split settings** – giving families flexibility while allowing children to experience something a little different with us.

🌿 **What does our Preschool week look like?**

**Monday – Full Beach/Forest School Day, 9am–3pm**
We hire a larger community bus, allowing us to travel further afield, explore different beaches, woodlands and outdoor environments and spend the whole day learning outdoors.

**Tuesday & Wednesday – Beach & Forest School**
Our nursery minibus allows our Preschool children to regularly head out to local beaches, forests and other outdoor environments.

And alongside all of this, children have their own **dedicated Preschool room at our Egremont nursery**, providing the perfect balance between our nursery environment and learning beyond its walls.

Our outdoor sessions are led by our **dedicated Forest School teacher**, who is passionate about Early Years and the incredible opportunities that learning outdoors can give young children.

We see children develop confidence, independence, resilience, communication, physical skills, curiosity and friendships – all while exploring, taking appropriate risks, solving problems and experiencing the natural world first-hand.

☀️ **Need childcare during the school holidays too?**

We can also offer extended childcare during the holidays, which can be particularly helpful for families splitting their funded hours between two settings during term time but needing additional days during school holidays.

Your child doesn't have to attend five days a week to become part of Little Learners.

**One or two days with us can give them a whole different experience.** 🌊🌳

This week in the tweenie room, we delved into the story sack "Five Fat Sausages, " then sang a song, counting sausages in a pan. Additionally, we explored numbers on dominoes outside and created our own sausage and other breakfast items using playdough. Today was our final Beach School of this academic year and what a time we had! Preschool gained a new member at circle time, Mr Crabby, who joined us as we made our final Beach School promise. We then made the most of the warm summer waves, splashing and jumping and having a marvellous time. From the whole Beach School team, we wish our preschoolers every success in their new chapter.

At Little Learners, learning doesn't just happen inside the nursery.

Our children have regular opportunities to explore, discover and learn outdoors through our **Beach & Forest School** experiences – building confidence, independence, resilience and a real love of the world around them. 🌊🌳

We believe childhood should be full of adventures, muddy wellies, exploring, questioning and making memories. 💛

This week in the tweenie room we explored the story sack "Winnie the Pooh". We engaged in activities such as exploring the teddy bears, reading and discussing the story, and mixing colours to make new ones. Additionally, we completed jigsaw puzzles outside and used flash cards to look at and identify colours.
