With millions of new devices being gifted this Christmas, parents and carers should make sure to set up safety features and keep an eye on what apps and games their children are downloading. 🎄 🎁

Ofcom research has revealed that 55% of parents of gamers are worried about pressure to make in-game purchases - so it’s important to take note of age ratings and disable in-app purchasing. 📲

At St Bridget’s we’re proud to hold the Platinum Award for PE. This week, we have seen huge sporting success from 2 of our teams from Y6. On Tuesday, one of our teams came back victorious from a football and netball tournament at St Benedict’s. Whilst today, our boys returned as winners from a football tournament at Whitehaven Academy with no goals conceded.
We’re very proud of you all! ⚽️🏆👏🏼

🌺 Today We Remembered 🌺
Thank you to the children and families who were able to join us for Egremont’s Remembrance Parade this morning.
They all made us very proud to represent St Bridget’s on such an important day.
Special mention to Chloe who represented the scouts and to Frank for his incredible contribution to the remembrance.
Well done to Isaac and Jack who laid our wreath with such respect.
🌺 Lest We Forget 🌺

Our Reading Ambassadors met with Mrs Smith this week to present the findings from their research about the provision of books in our class libraries throughout school. They were allocated a generous budget to buy a new selection of books from the wish list so they took a trip out to Hill’s book shop in Workington to buy some new books for our class libraries. They had a fabulous time searching through all the shelves of books and can’t wait to deliver new books to each class. 📚 📕

What a lovely sight over the junior yard this afternoon. We wonder if the pot of gold is on the Main Street somewhere! 🌈

Yesterday, Y5 took part in a Lowry Art Workshop. They learnt about the artist Lowry and how he liked to paint industrial scenes of towns in the north of England including his home town Manchester. The children have made a diorama of the painting ‘Going to Work - 1943’. This will be on display in the Beacon in January when we will go to see it. 🎨 🖼️

Last Friday, we were delighted to welcome Mrs Murphy and her sons into school to award the annual “Luke Murphy Cup for Sportsmanship.” This special award was created to remember our dear friend and governor Luke who we sadly lost nearly 2 years ago.
This year, the trophy was passed to Alfie in Y6 who consistently plays fair, includes others, recognises the rules of play and pushes himself in everything he does with outstanding sporting success. We are proud of you Alfie, well done! 🏆 👏

Well done to these children who completed the Summer Reading Challenge. They were awarded their certificates in today’s assembly. 👏 📕 📚

Introducing our new School Council. These children were voted to represent their year groups by their fellow class mates during our elections last week. The children learnt about the importance of democracy and how we can work together, respecting everyone’s viewpoints, to make our school a great place to be. Good luck in your new roles.

Y2’s first science lesson of the new school year was to use the scientific skill of observing closely. We used the senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch to explore shells and stones in the classroom. We used our scientist voice to describe the similarities and differences between the objects. Then we went outdoors to observe and describe plants and animals in the school grounds using magnifying glasses. We found several unexpected things. What a wonderful lesson to start the year! 👀🌿🕷️🦗
