As another fantastic school year comes to an end, we would like to say a huge thank you to all of our children, families, staff, governors and the wider Bookwell community for your support throughout the year.
We hope you all have a safe, happy and restful summer holiday filled with fun, laughter and more sunshine!
A very special good luck to our Year 6 leavers as you begin your next adventure. We are so proud of everything you have achieved and know you will go on to do incredible things. Believe in yourselves, work hard and enjoy every opportunity that comes your wayโ€”we'll miss you all!
Have a wonderful summer from everyone at Bookwell Primary School. ๐ŸŒˆ

To get behind the team, the children were invited to wear England football shirts today.

All classes took part in a penalty competition โ€” letโ€™s hope England donโ€™t have to resort to them in the semi-final tonight!!!๐Ÿ˜ฑ

This week, Year 6 took part in Bikeability โ€” a cycling scheme designed to keep them safe on the roads. ๐Ÿšด ๐Ÿš— ๐Ÿšดโ€โ™‚๏ธ

By the end of the program, the children were better equipped to ride safely and responsibly, with a greater awareness of road safety and the rules of the road. Many thanks to Nick, Rose and Simon from Cyclewise for delivering the training. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

Our Year 1 Gardening Club had another fantastic session in the Mrs Ashcroft Memorial Garden this week! ๐ŸŒฑ
The children were delighted to harvest fresh lettuce, cauliflower and peas that they have helped to grow. As well as enjoying the fruits of their hard work, they also made an exciting discoveryโ€”a butterfly chrysalis attached to one of the cabbage leaves!
It's amazing for the children to experience where food comes from and to enjoy the rewards of growing it themselves.

๐Ÿž ๐ŸŒ A massive well done to our infants for two fantastic performances this week of โ€˜Mega, Mighty Minibeastsโ€™. ๐Ÿชฒ ๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ ๐Ÿœ

The children sang and acted with confidence and joy, and their costumes were absolutely brilliant! What a lovely message too โ€” that even the smallest creatures can have a huge impact!

Many thanks to the parents and grandparents who came to support the shows. Who else has the songs stuck in their head?! ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ‘

โ˜€๏ธ ๐ŸšŒ Year 6 York Residential โ›ด๏ธ โ˜€๏ธ

Wow! What an unforgettable residential in York! It was a jam-packed 3 days and the children have made memories that will last a lifetime.

Day 1 โ€” before reaching our youth hostel, we visited Eden Camp in Malton. Built on the site of an original 1942 prisoner-of-war camp, its 22 restored huts use immersive sights, sounds, and smells to recreate life on the home front and the front lines.

We then checked into our accommodation, which Year 6 found very exciting, before heading out into York for a spooky ghost walk - a mischievous pigeon even joined in with the jump scares ๐Ÿ‘ป! We headed back to the hostel and watched the first England match before getting a good hourโ€™s sleep for the next day!

Day 2 โ€” we visited York Minster - the gothic cathedral that is a soaring masterpiece of medieval architecture. The children were mesmerised by its size and beauty.

Next stop was a tour of Yorkโ€™s Chocolate Story. We learned about the 4,000-year history of cocoa and how legendary local families built York's confectionery empire, producing iconic treats like the KitKat and Terry's Chocolate Orange. We even had a go at making our own chocolate confectionery.

Then we wandered the narrow, cobbled streets of the Shambles to do a spot of souvenir shopping.

We then had a leisurely boat cruise on the River Ouse. A nice way to have a quick relax! Tea back at the hostel and we were off to an evening of ten pin bowling. After such excitement, the children got a good couple of hoursโ€™ sleep in preparation for our final day!

Day 3 โ€” a few children struggled to rise this morning! We had breakfast, packed our bags and tidied our rooms, then headed off for our final adventure - The Forbidden Corner. Set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, it is an award-winning labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and watery surprises! After much fun and laughter, we boarded the coach for one last time and began the long road back to rainy Cumbria.

We know the children had the time of their lives, and we hope theyโ€™ve had a good rest over the weekend.

Apologies for the massive photo dump!

Until next time, farewell, York!

Today, we welcomed PGA Professional Stu Warren Golf into school to deliver his โ€˜Primary Golf Experience session.โ€™

All classes took part and had the opportunity to learn new golfing skills, including how to swing a club and blast a ball!

What a fun introduction to golf! Thanks, Stu. ๐Ÿ™Œ โ›ณ๏ธ ๐ŸŒŸ

Earlier this term, our Year 5 children took part in a Screen-Savvy Kidz UK workshop. As part of the session, they designed posters promoting ways to stay safe when using the internet.
The children produced some fantastic designs. We are delighted to share the school banner, which will help spread the important online safety message across our community.
Well done to all of our Year 5 pupils for their effort and thoughtful ideas
