A new partnership between Royal Holloway, University of London and the University of Surrey will help young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEETs) discover career opportunities in the UK’s growing cybersecurity sector.

Awarded funding through the ‘Future of Work in Surrey’, an innovative programme supported by the Economic and Social Research Council IAA, the 'CyberAccess' project has been co-designed from the outset by academics and project partners, including Surrey Lifelong Learning Partnership, Activate Learning (Guildford and Farnham Colleges), Wren Junction Ltd, and experienced cybersecurity specialists from industry.

Dr Waleed Bin Shahid from our Information Security Group (ISG) RHUL Official will take a leading role on the project, alongside Co-Lead Dr Maryam Mehrnezhad and Research Associate Dr Taylor Robinson, bringing their cybersecurity expertise and knowledge. Professor Amelia Hadfield from the University of Surrey brings expertise in regional skills policy and youth employment following her work on the report Next Steps for NEETs: From Insights to Action.

The project is an example of local universities working together with partners to achieve a purposeful impact both in our county and beyond.
