“The College is a secular institution committed to the pursuit of learning. It does not ally itself with any particular faith. It does however commit itself to an active support for the study and celebration of mainstream religious faiths within its community, recognizing that such celebration is a source of individual strength, communal resource and intellectual and artistic excellence."

The Day of Ashura (10th Muharram) is one of the most virtuous days of the Islamic year.

It is the day on which Allah saved Prophet Musa (Moses) (Peace be upon him) and his people from Pharaoh by parting the sea.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Fasting the day of Ashura expiates the sins of the previous year.” (Muslim)

This year, consider fasting:
📅 9 Muharram (Day before)
📅 10 Muharram (Ashura)
📅 11 Muharram (Day after)

May Allah forgive our sins, increase our gratitude, and keep us firm upon His guidance. Ameen 🤲

🌙 A New Islamic Year has Begun

The month of Muharram marks the beginning of the Islamic New Year 1448 Hijri (The time from when the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) migrated). It is one of the most sacred months in the Islamic calendar. Started on 16th June 2026 by sighting of the new moon.

For Muslims around the world, this is a time to pause, reflect, and consider how we can become better people in the year ahead.

As I reflected on the arrival of this new year, I found it beautiful that Allah placed the season of Hajj and the blessed Ten Days of Dhul Hijjah at the very end of the year, as though we are given one final opportunity to increase in worship, seek forgiveness, and finish the year strongly before turning the page to a new one.

Another beautiful Ayah that is has been on my mind this week and helps me anchor myself when I worship are the verses from Surah Furqan Chapter 25: Verses 61-62

“Blessed is He who placed constellations in the sky and placed therein a radiant lamp (The Sun) and an illuminating moon. And it is He who made the night and the day follow one another for whoever wishes to reflect or wishes to be grateful.” (Qur’an - Surah Furqan 25:61-62)

Perhaps the passing of days, months, and years is not merely the passing of time, but an opportunity for us to ask ourselves: Have we remembered Allah? Have we been grateful?

🤲 May Allah make us from those who remember Him often, thank Him sincerely, and enter this new year with renewed faith, purpose, and gratitude.

Imagine being asked to leave everything you love behind… simply because you trust God.

A father walked away from his home and comfort to spread peace.

A mother stood alone in the middle of a desert searching for water with her crying baby.

A son was willing to surrender completely out of faith.

This is the family at the heart of Hajj.

Over 2 million Muslims travel every year to Makkah, retracing the footsteps of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), his wife Hajar, and their son Ismaʿil.

The pilgrimage is not just a religious ritual.

It is a living story of sacrifice, resilience, love, trust, and devotion.

When Muslims walk between the hills of Safa and Marwah, they remember a desperate mother searching for water for her child.

When they sacrifice an animal during Eid al-Adha, they remember Abraham’s willingness to give up what was most precious to him for the sake of God.

When millions dress in two pieces of simple white cloth, status disappears.
Rich and poor stand side by side.
Human beings remembering that we all return to the same Creator on the day of reckoning.

Hajj teaches something deeply human:
That faith is not only belief.
Sometimes faith is sacrifice.
Sometimes faith is letting go.
Sometimes faith is trusting even when you cannot see the outcome.

And perhaps the most beautiful part of the story…

God did not forget the struggle of Hajar.
Her desperate search for water became a sacred act remembered by millions until today.

Not a single tear of sincerity is ever lost with God.
