Achieving for Children, RBWM, and Sportworks are thrilled to announce the soft launch of a new short break club designed to provide enriching, safe, and fun-filled experiences for children and young people with mild to moderate special educational needs and disabilities.
Once the short break is fully established, we will plan for a full announcement with pictures and feedback from the attending children, young people, and their families.
Starting the week of 20th April at the Maidenhead Community Centre, two sessions will run each week during term time.
Sessions will run on Mondays from 4–6 p.m. for 8-13 year olds and Thursdays from 4–6 p.m. for 14–17 year olds.

✔ What is a short break?
Short Breaks give children and young people with additional needs a chance to enjoy safe, fun activities, while parents and carers get valuable time for themselves. These sessions help young people socialise, build confidence, and learn new skills.
✔ Who Is eligible?
Children and young people who:
are aged 8 to 17
live in RBWM, and
have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
have mild-moderate additional needs. This might mean they:
need extra support to take part safely in activities.
have communication, sensory, social, or emotional needs that affect participation
have a disability that impacts daily life (proof of diagnosis required)
would benefit from a structured, supported leisure or play session
Who is not eligible?
If your family is currently receiving a package of support from the Children and Young People Disability Service , you are not eligible for this Short Breaks offer.
✔ Times and dates
Short breaks sessions will run starting from 20th April:
after-school on Mondays (8-13 year olds)
after-school on Thursdays (14-17 year olds)
at 4pm to 6pm
✔ Getting there
Activities will be provided by Sport Works
Activities will take place at: 4 Marlow Road, Maidenhead SL6 7HY
Transport will need to be arranged by the parent or carer
✔ What sort of things will my child be doing?
Participating in fun, structured games and activities designed to develop physical skills and coordination
Enjoying team challenges and group games that encourage social interaction and teamwork
Engaging in creative movement and sports-based activities, adapted for all ability levels
Building confidence, independence, and personal goals through supportive staff
Experiencing a safe and inclusive environment where everyone can have fun at their own pace
✔ Cost and parental contributions
Short breaks sessions may include a voluntary parental contribution. Here’s what you need to know.
Contributions are means-tested, meaning families receiving benefits or free school meals are exempt
Contributions: £5 per child a session
Contributions are voluntary, no child will be excluded if a parent cannot pay
Revenue from contributions goes toward supporting and expanding session delivery

Anyone can refer, including:
l parents and carers
l schools and SENCOs
l early help practitioners
l GPs and health teams
