Looking for pre-1855 deaths that are not on ScotlandsPeople?

We have an index to a variety of useful and lesser-known death records. For example, we’ve indexed the Crown Office Sudden and Suspicious Deaths 1823-1857. These are deaths reported to the Crown Office. Some led to criminal proceedings, but in the period we have indexed, most did not.

We’ve also indexed the Quaker Digest of Deaths 1667-1878 along with a variety of deaths found in records of other churches. We also have an index to the Alexandria Cemetery Burial Register.

Another interesting series of registers are the Anatomy Registers. These are registers of bodies which were used for medical research. These registers include age, address, date and place of death, and date and place of burial.

During the First World War, women were employed as tram drivers and conductors.

Rabbie Burns statue moved & unveiled in Edinburgh. “The Rigs o’ Barley” to go with this wonderful photo

The sky was blue, the wind was still,

Re-unveiled today...after being put under wraps and relocated because of the tram works...the sky lit up all around...and oor Rabbie looked like he was steppin' out in style for a pub crawl down in Leith tonight...
..or mebbies he was off up the barley field to meet Annie?

Yes, the conference is over! If you’re quick, you can pop into the page of the Scottish Indexes group and watch the talks from yesterday’s excellent conference. I’ve just caught up on the final presentation on Visualising Your Scottish Ancestors from Emma Maxwell. Some excellent hints for me to follow up on in that talk, and from the others too!
BTW their next conference is March 12th

Our conference begins at 7 am UK time and keeps going for 16 hours. You can come and go throughout the day and each presentation is shown twice.
