ART START Academy Art Classes for children and adults in Edinburgh East and Musselburgh.

Our classes are structured to help you experiment and discover your favourite media and styles and enable you to use your learning in your future art projects.

Recap of our Keith Haring class!
This term we are exploring people and animals, and this week we looked at body movement.

We got inspired by Keith Haring's moving stickmen:
We briefly looked at his career and visual language, then...
Each one of us struck a pose (yes, me too!) while it friends quickly sketched a stickman for each pose, paying attention at basic body proportions.
Then the children chose their favourite stickmen and created a composition with them, (some created kind of a story as you can see).
Lastly we enjoyed colouring them in with acrylic markers!

I made my pattern class for adults a bit more challenging.
We sketched our stamps but then we lino-cut them instead of using foam. Then we proceeded into creating our seamless repeat swatch.
Here is us working out how to position the swatch copies so they repeat correctly 😂

Come join us this Sunday! Come paint a huge collective birthday banner for The Fisherrow Centre's 150th birthday!

Here is part 2 of our exploration of surface pattern design.
In this class we learned how to fold our paper to print a seamless swatch with our home made stamps!
Look at all those amazing patterns, they can easily become wallpaper, wrapping paper or fabric!!

I’m loving being creative each week and Chiara is such a brilliant teacher, so patient and always on hand to help offer suggestions and advice on techniques. Tuesdays are now my favourite day of the week because I look forward to art class! Can’t wait for next term".
