Hey parents,

If your child isn’t into sports or outdoor activities, or they just prefer something a little quieter this summer, we’ve got something they’ll love.

Mathnasium’s summer programme is packed with games, activities, fun challenges and yes, food too! 🍕 Last summer’s students had a blast because we know how to make learning fun.

Whether your child has a love of STEM, or they have NAT 5 prelim exams in late autumn, summer at Mathnasium keeps minds sharp and confidence growing so they’re ready to hit the ground running when school starts back.

One thing we encourage our older students to do is visit past papers regularly. This gives them a flavour for what an exam feels like but it also helps them prepare for what to expect.

Preparation is equally as important as learning because the pressure of the day can make even the brightest of students crumble.

As a centre, we also visit papers regularly too. There are often patterns we can follow that allow us to make predictions and tailor our focus accordingly.

Although the school year is almost over and we’re knee-deep in summer exam prep, we’re also making plans for autumn exams, which will catch many students by surprise. They might be long while away, but the summer holidays will fly by, and a break in learning will mean that the beginning of the new school year will be spent settling back into learning, leaving less time for prep.

This summer, we’ll be offering drop-in sessions for older students to maintain and strengthen their skills, as well as tackling topics that they might be finding tricky.

The Maths Rollercoaster 🎢

Maths works differently from other subjects, this is because one gap in understanding doesn’t just stay in that topic, it snowballs because one topic follows onto the next.

The secret to exam success isn’t what happens the week of or the night before, it’s what happens in the months leading up to it.

Last-minute revision tests one thing, memory. It doesn’t build skill, it doesn’t fill gaps, and it doesn’t prepare a child for questions they haven’t seen before. It just creates stress 😩

We know that real preparation is structured and consistent, and can take a child from a predicted C to a strong A (we saw this with our older students last year).

Exam prep is identifying weak spots early and fixing them. It’s doing past papers, having regular practice, and building strong enough foundations that when a tricky question appears, your child has the skill to confidently work through it 😍

💫 The kids have been really thriving recently and we have so many amazing stories to share but today, we want to shine a spotlight on Emma, because her journey is one that’s made us incredibly proud.

When Emma first joined us last February, she was working through Check Up 6, finding some key S1 topics really tough and feeling a bit lost. She didn’t have the confidence to ask for help at school either...something we hear often.

🥳 Fast forward to today, and she’s working through Check Up 8 and tackling Nat 5 content before she’s even reached S3. How incredible is that?

With a little encouragement from us, Emma has been attempting past Nat 5 papers off her own back, and absolutely smashing them 👏

She heads into S3 with real confidence, the right skills, and the self-belief to take on the next two years all the way to her exam.
