Earlier this summer, we asked teachers what they'd do with some extra time in their week.

Their answers ranged from practical to personal, but every one of them offered a glimpse into the realities of life in schools. From supporting pupils and creating resources to getting outdoors, catching up on sleep or simply slowing down for a moment, every extra minute would be put to good use.

Reading these responses was a reminder that time is one of the most valuable resources in education. That's why we're proud that Sumdog not only boosts maths fluency but also helps save teachers time.

Swipe through to read what teachers told us, and tell us in the comments what you would do with an additional hour this week.

"We've been using it for three years now, and our year five and six children are now able to retain and know lots of number facts and calculation facts rapidly as a result of using the programme."

Number sense isn't something that children learn overnight. They need the right tools, consistent practice and, most importantly, support.

Sumdog helps pupils develop confidence and fluency through personalised practice, supporting rapid recall of key number and calculation facts.

Hear from Joanne Jones, Deputy Head at Dovedale Primary School, on the difference it's made to her pupils.

Recently, we asked teachers a simple question: What would you do with a little more time in your week?

To say thank you for sharing their thoughts, three schools each won a staffroom treat from Rachael's Kitchen — and here's a look at the winners enjoying their prize! 🧁

Congratulations again, and thank you to everyone who took part.

We’ll be sharing some of the inspiring answers soon, so keep an eye on our socials.

What does maths fluency actually look like in the classroom? 💡

It’s the moment pupils can recall key number facts without hesitation, choose a sensible strategy, and move through a problem without getting stuck on the basics.

It’s not one single skill. It’s the combination of understanding, recall, and confidence working together.

One day to go until the BESA Awards! 🎉

We’re incredibly proud to have been nominated in the Evidence and Impact category for our 2025 England Efficacy Study, which explored the impact of Sumdog on pupils’ maths attainment across 14 primary schools.

The study findings speak for themselves and highlight the progress we are making towards achieving Sumdog’s mission to narrow the attainment gap by helping every child reach their full potential ⭐

Good luck to all the nominees and thanks again to all our schools and partners in the Sumdog community - we couldn’t do it without you!

🎉 We're delighted to share that Sumdog has been shortlisted for the BESA Evidence and Impact Award!

This recognition follows the publication of our 2025 England Efficacy Study, which found statistically significant increases in maths attainment for Year 5 pupils' using Sumdog.

Over three terms, the independent ImpactEd Evaluation Study showed:

⬆️ An increase in the proportion of pupils working above the expected standard, jumping from 13% to 20.4%

⬇️ A reduction in pupils working below the expected standard, falling from 38.9% to 32.9%

⭐ More than double the proportion of pupils with SEN working at or above the expected standard, from 28% to 59%

We're incredibly proud that Sumdog's impact on maths attainment has been recognised by BESA and grateful to the whole Sumdog community for your continued support.

Stay tuned for the awards announcement on 8th July!

Sumdog is a targeted maths fluency tool designed to help ALL learners make progress.

That's why one of the most encouraging findings from our 2025 England Efficacy Study was the impact seen among pupils with SEN.

📊 The independent study found that the proportion of pupils with SEN working at or above the expected standard more than doubled, increasing from 28% to 59% over three terms.

⭐ Teachers also highlighted that Sumdog’s adaptive design enabled pupils to access appropriately challenging maths exercises and build confidence without feeling singled out from their peers.

We’re delighted that these findings demonstrate how Sumdog’s targeted maths practice can support inclusive maths learning.

If pupils are relying on counting fingers, avoiding problem-solving, or losing confidence when maths gets harder, fluency could be the missing piece 💡

One of the best ways to build it? Encouraging pupils to explain how they got the answer. When learners talk through their thinking, they deepen their understanding of number, explore different strategies, and build confidence in their reasoning.

It's one of the principles behind the Sumdog platform, and it works. In an independent ImpactEd study, 100% of teachers reported positive pupil engagement across all ability levels, with homework completion rising from near-zero to 50–60%.
