🏉 From player to coach… and we couldn’t be prouder.

We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Lisa Brown as a coach at this summer’s Silver Fox Coaching Camp! 🦊

Lisa first attended our events as a young player and is now representing Scotland at U20 level while playing for both Edinburgh Rugby and the University of Edinburgh.

Since first joining us, she has gone on to:

✅ Represent Scotland at U18 and U20 level
✅ Play for the University of Edinburgh
✅ Compete for Edinburgh Rugby in the Celtic Challenge

Lisa is a fantastic role model and a brilliant example of what hard work, positivity, and commitment can help you achieve.

We know she’ll inspire the next generation of players this summer, and we’re excited to have her back — this time wearing a coach’s shirt rather than a player’s one. 💙

Some things are worth more than money.

Back in 2014, one of my players gave me this pen as a gift.

More than a decade later, it remains one of my most treasured possessions.

I don’t use it to sign documents.
I don’t use it for everyday notes.

I only use it to write to players.

To congratulate them.
To encourage them.
To remind them of what they’re capable of.
To let them know someone believes in them.

The player who gave me this pen remains a dear friend to this day, and every time I pick it up, I’m reminded of the impact we can have on each other’s lives.

A handwritten note takes only a few minutes to write.

The impact can last a lifetime.

I came up with this while reflecting on what I felt was important about coaching - there will be lots more that could be added I’m sure, and I’m under no illusion that I have all the answers…

Here are 4 factors that I feel really matter in coaching:

⚡ E = EXCELLENCE

Set high standards.

Expect the best.

Help every player become the best version of themselves.

Accountability is a gift, not a punishment.

⚖️ F = FAIRNESS

Invest in everyone.

Not just the stars.

Not just the loudest.

Not just the biggest.

People always notice how you treat those with the least influence.

💬 F = FEEDBACK

Be honest.

Be compassionate.

Be clear.

Praise publicly.

Correct respectfully.

Trust is built through consistent conversations.

🎉 F = FUN

Sport is supposed to be fun.

At every age.

At every level.

Create sessions that players can’t wait to attend.

Because players may forget what you said.

They’ll never forget how you made them feel.

The best coaches develop players.

The greatest coaches develop people.
