Edinburgh Young Musicians is all about the joy of making music together. Since its inception in 1998, thousands of children have been inspired by EYM’s classes, which range from pre-school musical play via beginners' instrumental & musicianship classes to choirs, string orchestras & chamber music. A normal Saturday morning sees around 300 children attending various combinations of 44 different classes, all held at George Watson's College, EH10 5EG. Although all teaching is done in groups, children are encouraged to take individual instrumental lessons outwith EYM where appropriate. We believe in developing various aspects of children’s musicianship before exposing them to the discipline of learning an instrument or joining a choir, and to that end we offer musical play & musical workshop classes to children in their final pre-school year as well as P1, P2 & sometimes P3. The success of an organisation such as EYM relies totally on the quality of staff. We have a wonderfully accomplished, energetic and committed team of staff, who all share EYM’s vision of wanting to develop children’s musical potential in a positive and enjoyable way, with the understanding that the better you do something, the more satisfaction and pleasure you will gain from it. We also have a fantastic team of assistants. Most of these are senior school pupils or university students, and many are former or current EYM pupils. The contribution made by the assistants is immense, and for many it provides useful experience for future careers as well as the opportunity to help inspire young children in the way they were inspired when they were younger. Edinburgh Young Musicians is a Scottish Charity No. SC051034 regulated by the Scottish Charity Regulator.
