1140 hours Cross Boundary Funding 19/03/2026

🚨 IMPORTANT: Cross-Boundary 1140 Funding – This affects parents & childcare providers 🚨

Parents:
• Your access to childcare may become more limited
• You may have less choice in providers
• The stability of your child’s care could be at risk

Providers:
• This directly impacts your ability to run your setting

āš ļø Why this matters :
Childcare is already complicated and unaffordable.

If this decision is not challenged, other councils could follow, affecting childcare across Scotland.

We have taken an important step by issuing a legal letter to the Scottish Government, City of Edinburgh Council, West Lothian Council, and COSLA.

This decision was not taken lightly. It is crucial for the future of our sector, the development of our children, achieving affordable childcare for families, and the sustainability of providers.

šŸ“© For a copy of the letter, please email: [email protected]

šŸ™ We also ask for your support with our crowdfunding campaign - any donation or share helps show how important this is and the need for change across Scotland.

Lets also get the Early Years right, and how crucial early intervention can be, to build strong lasting foundations.

1140 hours Cross Boundary Funding 09/03/2026

Imagine having to tell your child they can’t go back to the nursery they love.

Families across the Central Belt are facing exactly that due to the withdrawal of cross-boundary 1140 hours Early Learning and Childcare funding. Children who are settled, happy and thriving are now forced to leave their nurseries, outdoor settings, and childminders their parents carefully chose for them.

This could mean uprooting children from trusted environments, unexpected childcare costs for families, and parents being forced to reduce working hours or even leave their jobs.

We are raising funds to obtain independent legal advice and ask for this decision to be urgently reviewed, while also asking the Scottish Government to look at whether this aligns with Scotland’s ā€œFunding Follows the Childā€ policy.

Even if your family isn’t affected right now, decisions like this could impact parental choice and childcare access across Scotland in the future.

If you can, please consider donating or sharing the page. Every share helps raise awareness and helps families ensure their voices -and their children’s needs -are heard.

What an up and down week!
Tuesday - extremely disappointing outcome at West Lothian Council meeting.
Wednesday - a positive forum meeting with Scottish Government ELC Deputy Director.
Thursday - powerful debate in Parliament about ELC, and the issue of Cross Boundary was addressed.
We wonder what next week may bring?
Have a lovely, restful weekend everyone... Monday will arrive too soon!

Today was not a good one! West Lothian Council has voted to protect its overspent, mismanaged budgets and has followed City of Edinburgh Council in withdrawing Cross Boundary funding.

However, we remain resilient. Our sector is unique, built on passion, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to fairness and equity. We will not give up.

This is now becoming a national issue, and we are preparing the next steps in our response. We will keep you updated as our plan of action develops.
