Starting a conversation about driving with an older parent, relative or friend isn’t always easy. But it’s not just about knowing when to stop driving - it’s about helping mature drivers stay safe, confident and independent for longer.

That’s why we launched our Mature Drivers Confidence Builder Course.

It’s not a test or about taking someone’s licence away. It’s a supportive, one-to-one driving session offering reassurance, practical advice and constructive feedback to help mature drivers feel confident on today’s roads.

This recent ITV Tonight programme explores the wider conversation around older drivers and road safety, and is well worth a watch.

If you have an older parent, relative or friend, why not share it with them? At around 24 minutes, it could be a really useful way to open up the conversation.

Week two of Tyre Safety Month focuses on the confidence gap - the difference between how prepared we think we are and how prepared our vehicles really are.

TyreSafe research found that 42% of drivers believe they are better than average at handling emergency situations.

But however experienced or confident we may be behind the wheel, vehicle condition still matters.

Tyre pressure, tread and overall condition can all affect grip, braking and handling - particularly when conditions become more challenging.

That’s why regular vehicle checks should be part of good driving practice for everyone, from newly qualified drivers to those who have spent decades on the road.

Take a few minutes each month and before longer journeys to check:

Welcome to the team, Grace!

We’re pleased to welcome Grace to BLT Driver Training, where she’ll be supporting the team across our training services.

Grace joins us after spending the last seven and a half years as a Recruitment Administrator, where she supported new starters with offer letters, contracts, onboarding and payroll.

Outside of work, Grace enjoys going to the gym and walking the family dog with her husband and son.

How confident are you in your stopping distance?

This October, we’re supporting TyreSafe’s Tyre Safety Month 2026: Act Before You REact campaign.

New TyreSafe research found that 83% of drivers believe they are in full control of stopping distance - yet only 6% correctly identified stopping distance in wet conditions at motorway speeds.

The condition of your tyres plays an essential part in how your vehicle responds when you need to brake suddenly, particularly on wet roads.

Before setting off, remember to ACT:

A – Air Pressure
Check pressures against your vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations.

C – Condition
Look for cuts, cracks, bulges or anything embedded in the tyre.

T – Tread
Check you have sufficient tread to maintain grip, particularly in wet weather.

Confidence behind the wheel is important - but preparation matters too.

Fleet Safety Focus: Operation Tramline🚛

This month’s Fleet Safety Focus content comes from Driving for Better Business, looking at Operation Tramline - a National Highways initiative helping police identify dangerous driving behaviours.

Although the operation uses HGV cabs to give officers a better view of surrounding vehicles, it doesn’t only target HGV drivers. Around 60% of drivers stopped during Tramline shifts are in cars or vans.

Common offences include mobile phone use, failure to wear a seatbelt, speeding and driving without proper control of the vehicle.

At BLT Driver Training, we work with drivers of vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, so we’re sharing this content to raise awareness of the wider behaviours that can increase risk across all types of work-related driving.

For fleet managers, it’s a useful reminder of the importance of strong policies, regular driver training and a proactive approach to road risk.
