🧠 Try giving your child a little extra time to answer!

When you ask your little one a question, it can be tempting to repeat it or answer for them if they don’t respond straight away.

Instead, try waiting for around 5–10 seconds. ⏳

👀 Get down to their level.
🗣️ Ask one simple question.
⏰ Give them time to think.
👏 Praise their attempt to answer.

For example, instead of asking several questions at once, try:

“What did you do at nursery today?”

Then wait.

They might need a little time to process the question and find the words they want to use.

That small pause can help build confidence, communication skills and independence. 💛

Want to help your child feel more confident talking about their experiences?

Try asking specific, simple questions about their day rather than just asking, “Did you have a good day?”

😊 “What made you smile today?”
🎨 “What did you enjoy playing with?”
👫 “Who did you play with today?”
🍎 “What was your favourite thing you did?”
💭 “Was there anything you found tricky?”

It helps children develop their communication skills, encourages them to share their thoughts and shows them that what they have to say really matters. 💛
