How hot is too hot to work?

There is no actual law on workplace temperatures. This does make sense when you think logically about it since every workplace is different.

One office could be hot during Summer, but a factory could be hot all year round due to machinery running constantly.

This hot weather doesn't seem to be disappearing any time soon, so if you need any advice - HSE have a great resource on their website.

How to waste money on training - opinion from the training providers!

Book your staff straight on to a course that YOU think they need. Don't analyse the skills gaps, just take a guess.

Don't identify their challenges, I'm sure you know them.

Don't figure out the best environment for them to learn in, everybody is the same.

On a serious note - please don't do any of the above! These mistakes can cost you your budget!

One of the biggest problems is assuming that any time away from the wheel counts as rest. It doesn’t.

Loading, paperwork, vehicle checks and other work still count as duty. A genuine rest period means you are not working and are free to use the time as you choose.

Other common mistakes include recording the wrong tachograph mode, splitting daily rest incorrectly and forgetting the rules around reduced weekly rest.

The details can get confusing, especially when shifts and duties change.
