To name but a few activities: Autumn trees, Autumnal play dough with the cutest hedgehogs being created from the playdough with pasta as the spikes. Learning is always happening quite simply through play. 🦔🦔

Children’s creative minds are incredible. These types of activities, led by our professional practitioners, are where learning through play really shines. Through hands-on exploration, children develop their creativity, fine motor skills, communication and confidence, supporting their learning and development.

Welcome back to all our families! 🥰 And a very warm welcome to all of our new families joining us this term .👋 We hope you’ve all had a lovely summer break and are ready for an exciting term ahead! 🌟
We are looking forward to helping everyone settle in, make new friends and feel happy and confident in their new surroundings. 💕 It’s always lovely getting to know the children and finding out all about the things they enjoy, the people who are important to them and what makes each of them special. 🌈

Our topic this term is All About Me 👧🧒, and we’ll be using our core books to help bring our learning to life. 📚 Our core books are Monkey Puzzle 🐒 for Kingfishers and The Rainbow Fish 🐠🌈 for Robins and Little Wrens.

Stories are a fantastic way to support children’s learning across the whole Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Through our books, conversations, play and everyday experiences, we’ll be supporting the children across all seven areas of learning. 🌟

🗣️ Communication and Language
We’ll be developing children’s communication and language through lots of talking, listening, singing, new vocabulary and sharing stories together. 📖🎶

💛 Personal, Social and Emotional Development
A big focus will be on getting to know each other, building friendships, talking about our feelings, developing confidence and becoming more independent. 😊🤝

🏃 Physical Development
We’ll keep busy with movement, dancing, outdoor play, fine-motor activities and lots of opportunities to practise becoming increasingly independent with everyday routines. ✂️⚽

📚 Literacy
Our stories will provide lots of opportunities to enjoy books, join in with familiar stories, develop an interest in sounds and letters, and have a go at making marks and early writing. ✏️📖

🔢 Mathematics
We’ll explore numbers, counting, shapes, patterns, size and comparison through practical, hands-on activities and, of course, lots of play. 🔷🔢

🌍 Understanding the World
We’ll encourage the children to be curious, ask questions and explore themselves, their families, their homes, their communities and the world around them. 🌱🔍

🎨 Expressive Arts and Design
There will be plenty of opportunities for music, singing, dancing, painting, creating, role play and using our imaginations to express our own ideas. 🎶🖌️💃

Most importantly, we want the children to have fun, feel valued and enjoy coming to nursery each day. 🥰 We’re looking forward to a busy and exciting term full of learning, laughter, friendships and lots of wonderful experiences. 🌟💕

As we head into our summer break ☀️, we want to say a huge thank you to every family who has been part of our journey this year.

Thank you for trusting us with your precious little ones and for sharing so many special moments. ❤️

To our Kingfisher families moving on to school 🎒, thank you for letting us be part of your journey. We’re also incredibly grateful for the lovely cards, gifts and flowers – they are never expected but always appreciated.

Your support, encouragement and kindness mean so much to us. We’ve loved watching your children grow in confidence, celebrate milestones and make wonderful memories along the way.

Thank you to our amazing team who somehow make the impossible look easy, even when the temperature is over 30 degrees.

Wherever this summer takes you, we hope it’s filled with laughter, adventure and precious family moments. ☀️

A truly engaging story that captured the children's imagination ✨. As one of our core books this year, The Gruffalo provides rich opportunities to support learning across the EYFS 🌟. Through storytelling 📖, role play 🎭, cooking activities 👩‍🍳, sound exploration 🎶 and outdoor adventures 🌿, children develop their communication and language skills 🗣️, expand their vocabulary 💬, build confidence in imaginative play 💭 and strengthen their understanding of the world 🌍.

The experiences linked to this story support all areas of the EYFS ✅, encouraging creativity 🎨, problem-solving 🧩, physical development ⚽ and positive relationships 🤝 while following the children's interests ❤️.

🦀 Crab Tuff Tray Exploration Fun 🦀

Over the summer ☀️ we have been focusing on The Rainbow Fish 🐠 story and exploring different types of sea life through a range of engaging activities.

The children thoroughly enjoyed investigating our crab-themed tuff tray, where they were able to explore a variety of textures, materials and objects linked to the seaside. They showed great curiosity as they touched, sorted and discussed the different items, using their senses to learn more about the world around them. Many children used their imaginations to create their own stories and scenarios, developing their language and communication skills as they played alongside their friends.

It has been wonderful to see the children so engaged, confident and creative in their play. Activities such as these provide valuable opportunities for children to investigate, question and make connections in their learning while having lots of fun.

🌟 Fairy Tale Fun at Nursery🌟

Our children have been enjoying a range of fun, hands-on activities inspired by our Fairy Tales theme this term.

🧪 The Robins and Little Wrens loved creating magical potions, using a variety of utensils, pots, water and petals. Through this activity, the children explored different textures and scents while developing their curiosity and sensory skills.

👸 We also brought the story of Rapunzel to life with a tuff tray activity. The children carefully used scissors to cut Rapunzel’s hair, practising their fine motor skills, concentration and turn-taking while having lots of fun.

We are so proud of the children’s enthusiasm, imagination and creativity as they explore their favourite fairy tales! ✨

Tuff trays provide a versatile, contained canvas for messy and sensory play. We set up tuff trays regularly to encourage everything from motor skill development to imaginative small-world exploration.

Tuff tray exploration offers several fundamental benefits for early years development:

Sensory Development: Exploring different textures (e.g., slime, dry rice, shaving foam, or ice) supports cognitive and brain development, memory, and helps children understand their environment.

Physical & Motor Skills: The large, flat surface encourages children to work standing up, which improves balance and core strength. Manipulating small loose parts or tools (tongs, tweezers, and brushes) builds essential fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

Social Interaction: The spacious design accommodates multiple children at once. This encourages sharing, taking turns, and cooperative teamwork while building early communication and language skills.

Imaginative Play: Trays are easily transform into miniature worlds using natural elements (twigs, pebbles), figurines, or playmats. This nurtures creativity, storytelling, and problem-solving.

An observational drawing activity, offering a wonderful opportunity for the children to express their creativity, embrace their love of art, and practise attentive listening. This activity has been thoughtfully prepared to inspire and encourage each child to explore. It is truly rewarding to watch the children immerse themselves in the creative process and take pride in producing their own unique pieces of artwork. Their enthusiasm and imagination never cease to amaze us, and we always look forward to seeing what they create.
