What do our young people think makes a good listener?

Someone who is....

👉Who understands you don’t need the answer
👉Who understands that it’s good to just listen
👉Who understands that less is more
👉Who can handle not saying anything and be ok with just acknowledging
👉Who knows the power of admitting you don’t know what to say

Could this be you?

We see ourselves as a family, and equally we recognise the families of our children, the love, the history, and the identity that comes from being with those who gave them life and who they grew up with.

We feel every child has the right to be part of a family and one family does not preclude another.

We will actively seek out opportunities for loved ones to have time together, to reconcile, to improve relationships, be safe together and to contribute to the well-being of our children.

Our young people think maybe this isn’t the right role for you if:

👉You may try and use humour and distraction too much, instead of just listening
👉You don’t slow down - you try and power through, instead of sitting with difficult feelings
👉It’s going to be too upsetting seeing difficult things
👉You haven’t yet learned how to cope with the tough stuff

Could this be you?

THE EXTRA QUALITIES OUR YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE TOLD US THEY WANT FROM THE PEOPLE AROUND THEM ARE….

👉Genuine and authentic - just being themselves and not how they want others to see them
👉Able to keep their head in stressful situations
👉Willing to have the serious conversations and knowing they can handle it
👉Have the confidence to do what needs to be done, even when it’s hard
👉Reassuring – able to confirm that I am ok, the difficulty will pass and my feelings are valid
👉Super resilient

In learning you will teach, in teaching you will learn - Phil Collins. 💚

Most of the young people who attend the Anderida Learning Centre arrive at a point of crisis or conflict in their lives. Through ALC expert intervention, They help them to regain a sense of confidence and self-esteem.

This allows them to refocus and experience success in education, despite the disruption to their learning caused by leaving mainstream school. Irrespective of their length of stay the team work hard to foster life long learning skills that will allow students to be successful in the community.
