📮💛 Sharing the Joy of Poetry with Our Local Community 💛📮

Last week, our whole school came together to celebrate National Poetry Day.

Our children put their creativity and imagination to work writing poems and even illustrating them, before taking them out into our local village and delivering them through the letterboxes of residents in our community.

It was wonderful to see the children so excited to share their writing with others and to think about the joy their words might bring to someone else. This was about much more than poetry; it was an opportunity for our children to develop their literacy and writing, to see that writing has a purpose beyond the classroom and see that their words and kindness can make a difference to others.

We are incredibly proud of the thought, imagination and enthusiasm shown by all of our children. We hope our little poems brought a smile to many doors around the village and brightened someone's day.

Words can connect us — and what better way to celebrate poetry than by sharing them with our community? 📖

Tudors, Vikings, Victorians and even Cavemen were all spotted together at Pevensey and Westham Primary School today as the school celebrated its annual History Day, "Pevensey Through Time"!
Each year group spent the day exploring a different period in history through a range of hands-on activities and immersive experiences. The special event aimed to bring learning to life while helping children understand how the past has shaped the world they live in today.
Some of our pupils walked to the iconic Pevensey Castle, discovering the stories of invaders, kings and warriors who once walked the historic site. Meanwhile, other pupils took a fascinating walk through the village, visiting the Mint House and the Court House Museum & Gaol, where they learned about Pevensey's rich local heritage.

Yesterday, our Year 4/5 pupils proudly represented our school in the 4th Ocklynge Cup, an event that is quickly becoming one of the highlights of the Eastbourne Schools Inter-Sport calendar. This competition is not only about winning; it fosters resilience and teamwork among our pupils, which is invaluable for their personal development.

Our team faced a challenging day on the pitch, drawing our first three group games and narrowly losing the last match. Despite us being a tough opponent for others, we finished 5th on goal difference, with two other schools finishing on the same points as us. Unfortunately, due to one school withdrawing on the day from the other group, we were left with only nine teams, meaning we were the only team without a fixture and did not have a chance to compete in the playoffs.

While this was disappointing, the spirit and determination displayed by our pupils were truly commendable. They demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship and teamwork, showcasing why the future of football at PaWS is so bright. We are incredibly proud of their efforts.

📚✨ Happy World Book Day! ✨📚
Today, our students went ALL IN! 🚀
We’ve been celebrating this year's theme—'Go All In: If You're Into It, Read Into It'—and the energy across the school has been absolutely electric!
Here is a quick glimpse at some of the ways that we celebrated the joy of reading today:
• 🦸‍♀️ Rocking incredible costumes of our favourite book characters.
• ⚽ Diving deep into books about our favourite hobbies.
• 💬 Sharing some fantastic new book recommendations with friends.
• 🎤 Dropping beats and rapping along to a funny poem in School Worship!
We are so proud of the enthusiasm and creativity our children brought to school today. Keep reading, keep exploring! 📖🌟
Feel free to let us know what your child is currently reading in the comments!

📚✨ What a wonderful start to the week we had! ✨📚
On Monday, 23rd February, we were absolutely thrilled to welcome the author Banji Alexander to our school for a very special visit!

Banji completely captivated the children, presenting and reading extracts from his brilliant book, Lockdown Looms: Reggie's Birthday Party. He even treated everyone to an exclusive reading of a brand-new poem from his upcoming poetry book! 📖🎤

The energy in the room was incredible—especially when the children got to show off their fancy hats and sing along with Banji to his song, New King! 👑🎶

Our curious students had so many brilliant questions for him during the Q&A. Banji shared wonderful stories about his life, his journey to becoming an author, and even what it was really like to appear on Britain's Got Talent! 🌟

The afternoon finished up with a hugely popular book signing. A massive thank you to Banji for being such a joy and for inspiring our next generation of readers and writers! ✍️❤️
