Here is an image of one of the first kicking techniques we learn at Canton Martial Arts.
What do you think of this one? Can you see any corrections that need to be made? π€π€
Have a look at this!
One of our newest students, taking to his training with absolute ease!
I am super impressed with the skills he has already developed since joining this summer!

Enjoy the sun and the rest and we will see you all on Tuesday 1st September!
What a day!! π
Absolutely chuffed with the East Sussex Karate Gradings yesterday. π₯
Despite the heat and the holidays we had a great turnout, especially the family members there for support. π
A very special Seniors grading yesterday also as all 6 of Canton Martial Arts Dojos were represented and involved, for the first and probably only time ππ
A great finish to the summer, well done everyone enjoy your break βοΈβοΈ

Why do we strike on the centre line?
First of all the centre line is quite simply an imaginary line running straight down the middle of your body, through your nose, chin, belly button and so on.
And the importance of this that it gives us something to visualise when practicing without a target, whether drilling combinations, shadow sparring or kata, it allows us as martial artists to focus our technique to the centre and build the correct muscle memory.
Also it means that throwing a strike against an opponent or other target will do the most impact, instead of throwing a punch and having it land on the abdominal muscles or the edge of the torso striking to the centre line ensure we hit the more vulnerable targets, like the solar plexus.
Finally it gives us a mental and physical reference and point to turn rotational strikes into, i.e. hook punches, knife hand strikes, round kicks and hook kicks to name a few. Otherwise we risk under-turning our body and legs leaving the strike without power or correct technique.
Did you know this? Is there any other reasons of benefits that you would add?

π₯ The Mental Health Benefits of Martial Arts π₯
Martial arts isnβt just about learning how to defend yourself. Itβs about building a stronger, healthier mind too. π§ πͺ
Training can have a powerful impact on your mental wellbeing by helping you:
β¨ Reduce stress β Physical activity helps release tension and gives you a positive outlet for everyday pressures.
π― Improve focus β Learning techniques, combinations and movement encourages you to stay present and focused on the moment.
πͺ Build confidence β As you learn new skills and overcome challenges, you start to believe in yourself more.
π₯ Develop discipline β Showing up, putting in the work and pushing through difficult sessions teaches perseverance that carries into everyday life.
π Boost your mood β Exercise can help improve your mood and leave you feeling more positive and energised.
π€ Create connection β Training alongside others can provide a sense of community, belonging and support.
π§ Learn emotional control β Martial arts teaches you to remain calm under pressure, manage frustration and respond rather than react.
And perhaps most importantly, martial arts gives you a place where you can switch off from the outside world, concentrate on yourself and leave the stresses of the day behind.
You don't have to be fit. You don't have to be confident. You don't have to know what you're doing.
Just take that first step. π₯
Your body will get stronger β and your mind might thank you for it too. β€οΈ
