1 – Check before you visit – always check it’s convenient to visit. Don’t just turn up.

3 – Wash your hands – clean hands help protect little ones from germs before cuddles.

4 – Don’t kiss the baby – kisses can spread viruses that are harmless to adults but serious for babies.

5 – Keep visits short – new parents and babies need plenty of time to rest and recover.

6 – Respect feeding time – feeding comes first. Be patient and give them the space they need.

7 – Make the tea – put the kettle on, bring snacks, or help with the washing up. Small acts make a big difference. Don’t expect to be waited on.

8 – Skip the advice – unless they ask, keep opinions to yourself. Let them figure this out in their own time.

9 – Offer practical help – fold some laundry, empty the dishwasher, or pick up a few useful bits from the shop. Help is the best gift.

⚠️ Urgent recall: ASDA is recalling the Hapello Power Train because a small part may detach from the toy, posing a choking risk to young children.

The affected product has barcode 5063089308547 and was sold between August 2024 and February 2026.

The orange steam dome on top of the train may come loose and could pose a particular risk to children under 36 months, who may put small objects in their mouths.

If you have the affected toy, stop using it immediately, keep it out of reach of young children and return it to your nearest ASDA store for a refund.

🟥 Scarlet Fever is very infectious and can easily be spread to other people so if you think your child might have scarlet fever please keep them off school or nursery.

🟥 It's usually easily treated with antibiotics but as always, if you are concerned about your child, please trust your instincts and get advice from a medical professional as soon as possible if you feel your child is becoming more unwell.

🟥 If they are displaying the following symptoms please get medical advice as quickly as possible:
- Fever
- Severe muscle aches
- Localised muscle tenderness
- Redness at the site of a wound
- Unexplained vomiting or diarrhoea

🌡️ A normal temperature in babies and children is about 36.4C, but this can vary slightly. A fever is usually considered to be a temperature of 38C or above.

🥵 Your baby may have a high temperature if they:

- feel hotter than usual to touch on their forehead, back or stomach
- feel sweaty or clammy
- have flushed cheeks

🌡️ If you think your baby has a temperature, it's best to check with a thermometer.

🥵 Ideally, you need a digital under arm thermometer to get a fast, accurate reading.

🌡️ You can buy these online or from pharmacies and most large supermarkets.

🥵 To take your child's temperature:

- Hold them comfortably on your knee and put the thermometer in their armpit – always use the thermometer in the armpit with children under 5 years to get the most accurate reading.

- Gently, but firmly, hold their arm against their body to keep the thermometer in place for however long it says in the manufacturer's instructions – usually about 15 seconds.

- The display on the thermometer will then show your child's temperature.
Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully, you should get an accurate reading.

🌡️ There are a few things that can slightly alter the reading – if your child has been:

- wrapped up tightly in a blanket
- in a very warm room
- very active
- cuddling a hot water bottle
- wearing a lot of clothes
- having a bath

🥵 If so, allow them to cool down for a few minutes, but do not let them get cold or shivery, then take their temperature again to see if there's any change.
