🛑 Please be careful with garden hoses in this heat

🔥 Today temperatures are reaching around 35°C in many areas of the UK, and while spraying the kids with a hose feels like the perfect way to cool down, there is something every parent needs to know.

🔥 A hose left lying in the sun can heat the water inside to dangerous temperatures.

🔥 When you first turn it on, that water can be hot enough to cause serious burns, especially on delicate baby and young children’s skin.

🔥 We know this image is hard to look at but we’re sharing it to raise awareness.

🛑 Before spraying children with a hose:

- Always run the water for a few minutes first until it is cool
- Test the temperature with your hand before letting it near children
- Never leave a hose full of water sitting in direct sunlight
- Remember that babies and young children have much more sensitive skin and can burn at lower temperatures

🥵 Enjoy the sunshine, keep cool, and take those extra few seconds to make sure water play stays safe.

👫 Small bodies, BIG feelings!

🌸 What might seem insignificant to us can feel like their whole world crashing down in that moment.

🌸 Meltdowns can be tough, especially over things we think are small. Instead of saying 'stop crying,' let's help them navigate these emotions. Show empathy and kindness to teach them emotional regulation.

It may be tempting to cool off in or near the water during a heatwave, but please take extra care when doing so ☀️

Swim at a lifeguarded beach where possible 🏖️

Take notice of the beach flags and safety signs 🚩

Stay within your limits when in the water 🌊

Never enter the water after drinking alcohol ❌

If you get into trouble, Float to Live 🛟

In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
