🔍 The Language of Sound 🎶

Last week marked the beginning of a new research project in our Baby Atelier at Saffrons Park Nursery.

As part of our wider enquiry, ‘The Hundred Languages of Babies,’ we are exploring the question:

🧡 How do babies make sense of the world through materials?

Our first investigation focuses on **sound**.

Using rice, drums, bottles, metal utensils, wooden objects and open-ended materials, the babies have been exploring what happens when they shake, tap, bang, fill and pour.

What has fascinated us most is the way the babies have returned to their discoveries again and again. Some compared the sounds made by different materials, while others filled bottles with rice and shook them to investigate the sounds they could create.

Rather than showing the babies how to use the resources, we are observing their theories and asking:

✨ Do babies notice that different materials make different sounds?
✨ How do they discover sound?
✨ How do they communicate through sound before they have words?
✨ What can sound tell us about how babies think?

For us, this isn't simply sensory play. It is research into how babies learn, investigate and communicate their understanding of the world.

We can't wait to see where their discoveries take us next….

We are hosting a special Discovery Event on Saturday 11th July with a special visitor Stephanie Bennett, Co-founder of The Curiosity Approach. We only have a few tickets remaining, so to grab your before they sell out- click on the link in the comments below ⬇️

💭 What if the most important thing your child learns isn't the answer? 💭

It's how to ask the question.

Children are naturally curious.

They wonder:
💭 Why do worms come out when it rains?
💭 How do birds fly?
💭 What happens if I mix these together?

Curiosity is the foundation of learning.
When children ask questions, investigate ideas and explore possibilities, they are developing the skills they will need for life.

💭 At Saffrons Park Nursery, we don't rush to give children the answers.
We create opportunities for them to become thinkers, explorers and investigators.
Because the future belongs to those who continue asking questions.

🫑We had a special delivery in Pre-school today. Peep, Hoola, Dug, Oz and the Dilly Dallies have arrived!🥔🍅
As Let’s Grow comes to the end, of the year, the children have had a chance to say goodbye to the visiting babies.

We will be exploring themes of friendship, memory-making, and preparing for new adventures. With fun activities and opportunities for imaginative play, "Moving On" offers a wonderful chance for children to reflect on their experiences and look forward to new ones.

💜. Are We Underestimating Babies? 💜👶

For years we've been told that babies need more toys, more activities and more stimulation.
But what if we've been looking at babies the wrong way?

What if babies are already:
🌱 capable
🌱 communicative
🌱 curious
🌱 full of ideas

Join us on 11th July as we explore how babies communicate, learn and make sense of the world through the lens of the Curiosity Approach and respectful baby practice.

Hosted by:
✨ Stephanie Bennett, Co-Founder of The Curiosity Approach
✨ Sarah Putland, Curiosity Approach Ambassador & Nursery Owner

This isn't a session about activities.
It's a session about understanding babies.

There are limited places available. To purchase a ticket, click on the link in the comments below ⬇️

🧡 If you’ve ever worried…
“Am I doing enough for my baby?” 🧡

Here’s what matters most:

🧡Did they feel loved today?
🧡Did they feel safe?
🧡Did they have space to explore?

Because babies don’t remember activities…

👉 They remember how they felt
And that feeling becomes the foundation for everything.
