Let your child choose a book and enjoy looking at it together! Reading doesn't always mean reading every word on the page. Talking about the pictures is a great way to build communication skills. 💬

Try commenting on what you can see: 👉 "It's a snake!" 👉 "The bird is flying." 👉 "Wow, what a big elephant!"

These simple conversations help children learn new words, understand sentences, and begin to make sense of stories. They also support attention, listening skills, and a lifelong interest in books. ❤️📚

It has been wonderful welcoming our children back to St Joseph's this week!

The school has been filled with smiles, laughter and excitement as the children have settled back into their routines, reconnected with friends and shared stories from their summer holidays. It has been lovely to see familiar faces around school again and to welcome those who are new to our St Joseph's family.

We are incredibly proud of how well the children have returned to school, showing kindness, enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards their learning.

We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead, full of opportunities, achievements and special memories.

As children settle in for a new school year, some may be starting to walk to and from school on their own for the very first time. 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

This can be an exciting milestone, but it's natural for both children and parents to feel a little nervous too.

A little preparation can make a big difference: ✅ Practise the route together ✅ Talk about safe places to cross ✅ Keep phones away and stay aware of surroundings ✅ Remember: it's always better to be late than unsafe

Building confidence through practice can help children stay safe and enjoy their growing independence. 💛

💙 Please join us in giving a very warm St Joseph's welcome to Mr Diskin! 💛

Many of our children and families will already know him as Coach Ben, and we are delighted to share that he has joined St Joseph's as a Teaching Assistant.

Mr Diskin will be working mainly within Year 5, whilst also supporting children and staff across the school. A passionate football fan, he brings lots of enthusiasm, energy and encouragement to everything he does, and we know he will be a valued member of our team.

We are looking forward to seeing the positive impact he will have on our pupils, both in and out of the classroom.

If you see Mr Diskin around school, please do say hello and help us make him feel welcome as part of the St Joseph's family.

✨ Welcome Back to St Joseph's! ✨

We hope all of our children and families have had a wonderful summer filled with fun, relaxation and lots of special memories. ☀️🌈

A reminder that Tuesday is an INSET Day for staff, so school will be closed to pupils. We will be welcoming everyone back to school on Wednesday, and we can't wait to see all of our children returning and settling into their new classes.

We are looking forward to another exciting year of learning, friendship, growth and success across our St Joseph's family. 💙

📚 Secondary school applications

If your child lives in Nottinghamshire and requires a secondary school place in year 7 for September 2027, you need to apply before the application deadline on Saturday 31 October 2026.

Applying online is quick and easy. You will need an email address to register and we urge you to apply on time and list four schools on your application.
