Building strong number foundations 🧠✨

In this session, we focused on developing confidence and understanding in early numeracy through a range of hands-on activities.

We began with number formation, ensuring each digit is written correctly and with purpose. From there, we moved on to counting and recognising value, helping to build a clear link between numbers and what they represent.

Using Numicon, we explored numbers in a concrete, visual way—supporting deeper understanding and making abstract concepts more accessible.

To finish, we applied these skills through simple addition, bringing everything together in a meaningful and engaging way.

It’s all about building confidence, understanding, and a love of learning—one small step at a time 💕

“‘My child finds reading tricky…’

I hear this all the time 💛

And the biggest thing I want parents to know is — it’s so common.

Yes, learning to sound out words is really important…
but for many children, reading difficulties aren’t just about phonics.

It’s confidence.
It’s feeling safe to try.
It’s not wanting to get it wrong.

That’s why in my sessions, we build both —
the skills and the confidence.

Because when a child starts to feel capable,
everything begins to click

If you’re worried about your child’s reading, feel free to message me — always happy to chat 💕

A little snapshot of today’s learning 💛

We started with a fun sight word game—uncovering, sounding out, blending and matching words to build confidence with reading.

Then we explored the “oo” sound, breaking words into their individual sounds and recognising that two letters can make one sound before blending them back together.

Lots of great thinking, confidence building and smiles along the way ✨

✨ Step Into the Spotlight with Mic to Hype ✨

Ruth and I were chatting one day at the Bowfield about how powerful it would be to create something different for women in business… not just another networking event, but an experience.

And that’s exactly what Mic to Hype is 💫

🌟 About Me 🌟

Hi, I’m Jane 👋

I’m a fully qualified Primary Teacher with 20 years’ experience supporting children across all stages of primary school.

Alongside my classroom experience, I have a real passion for supporting children with additional support needs. I’ve worked with Scottish Autism, been an ASD Advisor within East Renfrewshire, and supported pupils, staff and families as a Support for Learning teacher in a junior school setting.

I have experience working alongside Educational Psychologists during assessments (including dyslexia), helping to identify and remove barriers to learning so that every child can reach their full potential.

I’m also trained in AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), and have experience supporting children who are non-verbal or who benefit from alternative ways to communicate. I use approaches such as Gestalt language processing and the Social Use of Language Programme (SULP) to support communication and social understanding.

My approach is always nurturing, supportive and tailored to each child — building confidence, skills and a love of learning in a way that works for them 💛
