Brambletye

Brambletye Brambletye is a multi-award winning co-educational day and boarding prep school in the Sussex countryside for pupils aged 2-13.

Brambletye is a leading day and boarding preparatory school for children aged two and a half to thirteen. The School is well known for preparing boys and girls in small classes for the top senior independent schools in the country. In a stunning location of 140 acres, Brambletye also provides an enormous breadth of opportunity in which children can develop their own individual talents within a ver

y supportive network. The dedication and enthusiasm of the staff is very distinct and every child is encouraged to get the very most out of school life. Brambletye is an extremely happy school where every individual counts, and the Christian ethos quietly influences all that we do

The final day of the summer term always ends with Sports Day, and despite a busy few weeks, our children never fail to impress us with their energy and enthusiasm.

Blessed with glorious sunshine, families enjoyed picnics overlooking the Nevill Field as the children competed, encouraged one another and gave their very best. Congratulations to everyone who took part, and especially to those who won awards and set new records.

Sport really is at the heart of a Brambletye education, teaching our children not only to compete, but to challenge themselves, support others and discover what they are capable of.

The Summer Concert was a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and we were delighted to see every Prep School child involved through the House Shouts and Year Group performances. The Parent Choir, Senior Choir, Orchestra, Big Band, the 1919 Trio, and the Bramble Tones all contributed to an evening of real variety and skill. It was a huge undertaking and a real triumph for the Prep School, and particularly wonderful to see Years 1 and 2 confidently taking part in the House Shouts.

It was also a pleasure to see the school community come together in support of Jigsaw South East, with the raffle raising £1,625. Thank you to everyone who donated.

As Summer Fun Day did not allow us to enjoy the usual pony rides on Top Field, we are especially grateful to Posey and Penny for so kindly bringing their ponies into school, and for making it possible for our Pre-Prep children to still experience a ride. As the children took turns, those waiting helped with grooming the ponies, and we must say they were among the best groomed ponies we’ve seen at Brambletye, thanks to such enthusiastic care from the children and the generous support of Posey, Penny and Lizzie throughout the afternoon.

Many congratulations to Aimee, who has been awarded an Academic scholarship to Brighton College. Aimee has also been awarded an Art scholarship to Brighton College, which was celebrated in a previous post.

Academic scholarships are always hard to come by but are even more difficult to achieve at Brighton, as the field of candidates is always exceptionally strong and the expectations are high. Aimee never disappointed in her studies, always working unfailingly hard and taking a good deal of responsibility for her own learning (this is vital for any successful academic scholar). She impressed the examiners with numerous Grade A results in extremely challenging papers. I have no doubt that she has gained immeasurably in confidence from being part of our scholars’ programme, and this award will serve as a springboard to much future academic success for her. In addition to this, Aimee’s scholarship came right at the end of the season, when she had previously had to hear of much success coming from her colleagues. I am so pleased that she has gained this most prestigious award — it is very much deserved. Well done indeed, Aimee. Mr Gomm.

Summertime is always especially busy in boarding, and the last couple of weeks have certainly been no exception. If there has been a theme to their recent activities, it has definitely been water. Our boarders have enjoyed paddle boarding, a trip to Aqua Chimp, the giant slip and slide at school, a visit to Eastbourne Beach, water fights and our very own leadership battleships, which was hugely fun.

We have also continued to welcome our Year 3 Golden Ticket stays, who have been a wonderful addition to the boarding family and have thrown themselves into boarding life brilliantly.

Alongside all the action, the boarders also enjoyed the much anticipated Mrs Kingsley Spa, which brought together pupils from across the year groups for a lovely evening of relaxation and fun.

Days 3 and 4 of the Year 8 Leavers’ Trip saw pupils embark on their expedition, spending a night away from the centre and becoming entirely self-reliant.

Working together in their groups, the children navigated their routes using map and compass, leading the way across the stunning Welsh landscape. Many successfully reached the summit of Cader Idris, rewarded with magnificent views and the opportunity to look back across the terrain they had travelled.

As evening fell, camps were established beside lakes and rivers, where pupils prepared hot meals before settling in for a night under clear skies.

The following day, all groups made their way back down the mountainside, with some enjoying a canoe journey and others fitting in one final jetty jump before returning to camp.

Throughout the expedition, the pupils demonstrated resilience, independence and teamwork in abundance. The beauty of Wales provided a spectacular backdrop to a truly memorable experience, and the children were rightly praised for embracing every opportunity the week had to offer.

Many congratulations to Jonah, who has been awarded an Academic scholarship to Worth.

It was very clear from the outset that Jonah not only had the academic acumen required to gain an award, but that he also set a very high standard of application and effort in his studies. He went out of his way to extend his already good knowledge in many subjects by seeking extra work and help from his teachers. In maths, he spent much time working through Olympiad maths problems, which stood him in very good stead indeed. He clearly has a very bright academic future ahead of him. I never had the slightest doubt that he would gain this excellent award. Very well done and richly deserved, Jonah. Mr Gomm.

Many congratulations to Edward, who has been awarded the Thring All-Rounder Scholarship to Uppingham School.

We are incredibly proud that Edward has been awarded the highly prestigious Thring All-Rounder Scholarship.

The Thring Scholarship is reserved for candidates who possess the unique qualities, skills, and characteristics that make them truly stand out from their peers. It is an award that recognises a boundless passion and ambition for school life, identifying young people who will bring something exceptionally special to their senior school.

Throughout his time at Brambletye, he has been immediately recognisable as a pupil willing and able to take the lead and go the extra mile. He perfectly embodies the Brambletye Values to “Work Hard, Play Hard & Be Kind”. Whether setting an outstanding example in the classroom, showing true character on the games pitch, or engaging with and uplifting younger pupils in his role as a school Prefect, his breadth of talents and natural leadership have made a lasting mark on our community.

His drive and determination have been particularly evident this year. Amidst the busy challenges of preparing for Common Entrance and navigating the demands of the Thring scholarship process, he also managed to be a finalist in two of our biggest internal school competitions. He leaves us as a Verse Speaking Finalist and a Brambletye Musician of the Year Finalist.

Uppingham has certainly found a remarkable young man with tremendous potential. Mr Piper.

Day 2 of our Year 8 Leavers’ Trip to Wales was one of non-stop action and adventure.

Half the group headed to the coast, taking on jetty jumps, sailing, raft building and an estuary swim, while the other half ventured inland to explore the stunning Welsh landscape through gorge walks and a scramble to the heights above Barmouth.

We look forward to hearing all about Days 3 and 4 of their time in Wales.
