Treehoppers is an outdoor, woodland nursery & forest school with sites in East Grinstead & Haywards Heath. Open Monday - Friday. For children aged 2 & over.

We also run a Holiday Club for primary school aged children up to 8 years old.

🔢Maths Champions: Number Rhymes!🎶

We used number rhymes to make counting fun and hands-on! 🦆🐸

Using Five Little Ducks and Five Little Speckled Frogs, the children counted the props and used their fingers to show how the number changed as one was taken away.

We explored counting, recognising quantities and number bonds through familiar songs and rhymes. ✋🔢

And of course, the children had their own ideas too — including the suggestion that we needed a bigger mummy duck and daddy duck!🦆💚

A little woodland visitor in need of some help… 🦡🌿

We recently discovered a badger close to our Borde Hill site who appeared to be injured and wasn’t moving. Thankfully, Horsham wildlife rescue came to the rescue and we discovered she was an older female badger. It wasn’t clear what was wrong or why she was on her own but we so hope she gets a happy ending.

We’re so grateful to Nathan for coming out to us. What an amazing job they do caring for our local wildlife💚

🌿Maths Champions: Number Hunt!🔢

We went on a Number Hunt around the woods!🕵️‍♀️🍂

The children chose a number, counted the dots and then went searching for that many pieces of natural treasure. They collected sticks, leaves and pebbles before adding them to our shared treasure blanket🪵🍃🪨

Along the way, we explored counting, recognising numerals, matching numbers to quantities and subitising — recognising small quantities without needing to count each one.

A fun, hands-on way to explore numbers using the natural world around us!🌳💚

Our woodland was full of some very special visitors!🐑🌿

The children at Treehoppers East Grinstead loved welcoming the visiting farm, getting up close to the animals and learning more about each one. From curious questions to plenty of gentle pats, it was a lovely opportunity to explore, discover and make new memories together!💚

Today we’re celebrating 8 years of Treehoppers at East Grinstead!🥳

When we first opened our doors, we had just a few children, plenty of passion and a big belief in what we were creating. It’s so special to look back and see how much it has grown since those early days.

Thank you to all the families who have supported us along the way, and to our amazing team who make the magic happen every day.

And of course, a big thank you to 🍫🎂Sugar & Spice 🍪🧁 for the fabulous birthday cake!🎂✨

🌿 Maths Champions: Small World Play 🐾

Small world play is full of opportunities to explore maths — often without children even realising they’re doing it!

For this activity, we created a sensory small world using animals, coloured water, wood chip, sawdust, grass, logs and bark. This gave us lots of opportunities to introduce mathematical language through play, from talking about height and position to exploring different routes, directions and distances.

We know children are holistic learners, and every child will engage with the tray differently depending on their stage of development. Our team observe and interact, creating environments where children can discover and explore. They follow children’s interests and ideas, sensitively adding resources and modelling vocabulary to support every child.

Because maths really is everywhere when you know where to look! 🌱🔢💚
