What if they just… don’t want to do it? 👀

It’s a question we know some parents worry about before their child comes to Summer Adventure Camp for the first time.

The answer? That’s OK.

Some kids arrive and want to try EVERYTHING immediately.

Some hang back and watch for a bit.

Some need to see another child have a go first.

And some need a little encouragement from our team before deciding, “Actually… maybe I will.”

Camp isn’t about forcing children to be fearless.

It’s about giving them loads of opportunities to try something new, at their own pace, with people around them cheering them on. 🌿

And quite often, the thing they were absolutely NOT doing at 10am becomes the thing they’re asking to do again by the afternoon. 😂

THIS is what “I DID IT!” looks like. 🙌💛

One of our favourite moments from summer at our Deers Leap camp.

The high ropes are HIGH. And when you're little and you're standing up there looking down, they can suddenly feel even higher. 😳

One step at a time, with the SAC team there to help and a whole group of kids below cheering them on.

And then… she did it.

That smile afterwards says pretty much everything.

These are the moments we love at Summer Adventure Camp. Not because every child needs to be the bravest or get to the highest point — but because there’s something pretty special about giving something a go, surprising yourself and hearing a load of new mates shouting your name from below. 💛

Sometimes “I did it!” is the best thing you can bring home from camp.

Things your child might come home from SAC saying… 😂

“I DID IT!”

“Can I go again?”

“LOOK how muddy I am.”

“I made a new friend.”

“Can I come back tomorrow?”

Followed by approximately 47 other stories, usually told all at once before you’ve even left the car park. 😂

One of the best bits about Summer Adventure Camp is hearing what the kids decide was the best bit of their day — because it’s not always what you'd expect.

Sometimes it’s making it to the top of something they weren’t sure they could do.

Sometimes it’s axe throwing, climbing or getting completely covered in mud.

Sometimes it’s something tiny they found in the woods.

And sometimes it’s simply the name of the new friend they’ve spent the whole day laughing with. 💛

So… what actually happens on a day at Summer Adventure Camp? 👀

If your child has never been to SAC before, you probably have a few questions about what actually happens once you drop them off.

So, here’s a little peek behind the scenes…

🌿 9.45am — Drop off

One of our team will be there to meet you and your child, check all the important contact and medical details and, most importantly, help them settle in.

If they're feeling a little nervous, that's absolutely fine. We give them time to find their feet, meet some of the other children and get comfortable before the adventures begin.

🙌 10am — Camp begins

Then we're off!

What happens next varies from day to day. Some activities are planned in advance, but we also adapt what we're doing depending on the weather and the group.

It might be archery, climbing, axe throwing, crafts, scrambling, team challenges or something completely different.

🥪 Lunch

Time to stop, refuel, chat to new friends and get ready for whatever we've got planned for the afternoon.

🌳 Then it's back to the adventures…

More activities, more chances to try something new and usually quite a lot of cheering each other on.

💛 4pm — Camp finishes

Collection is around 4.15pm, when we'll help gather up their bags and kit and tell you a bit about the adventures they've had that day.

And hopefully you'll get a happy, tired child who spends the journey home telling you approximately 47 different stories at once. 😂

That's a day at our outdoor holiday camps in Sussex.

And at Easter, you can book individual days, so they don't have to come for the whole week.

We know we shouldn’t have favourites… but you definitely can. 😂

Which SAC activity gets your vote?

We’ll obviously be keeping ALL of them — because choosing would be impossible. 🙌

Your child doesn’t have to be “outdoorsy” to love outdoor camp. 🌿

They don’t need to be the one who’s already halfway up a tree while everyone else is still putting their harness on. 😂

They don’t have to love mud.
Or heights.
Or bugs.
Or be desperate to try absolutely everything.

Some children arrive at Summer Adventure Camp already up for every adventure.

Others take a little longer.

Maybe they start with something creative. Maybe they make a friend. Maybe they watch everyone else have a go first.

And then they spot something they fancy trying.

That’s the bit we love.

Because sometimes the child who “isn’t really outdoorsy” discovers they’re brilliant at archery. Or loves scrambling. Or wants another go on the high ropes. Or simply discovers that spending the day outside with a new bunch of mates is actually pretty good fun.

There’s no one way to be an SAC kid.

So if you’re looking for an outdoor Easter holiday camp in Sussex but you’re thinking “I’m not sure this is really my child’s thing…” — you might be surprised. 💛

They arrived not knowing anyone… 👀

And then somehow, a few hours later, they’re laughing together, cheering each other on and behaving like they’ve been mates for years. 😂

That’s one of our favourite things about Summer Adventure Camp.

For lots of children, walking into a holiday camp where they don’t know anyone can feel like a pretty big deal.

But then someone asks them to join their team.
They tackle an activity together.
Someone makes someone else laugh.
And suddenly… they’ve found their people. 💛

By pick-up, there are new names being talked about all the way home — and by the end of the week, plenty of “Can they come again next time?”

So if you’re looking at Easter holiday camps in Sussex and wondering whether your child will be okay coming without a friend, they certainly won’t be the only one.

Making new friends is a pretty big part of the adventure. 🌿

“We said that was a wrap on Summer 2026…
but we have WAY too many photos not to share them. 😂

Apparently we’re not quite ready to let go of summer yet… ☀️😂

And judging by the amount of photos we still have to share, you’re going to be seeing a LOT more of it.

Big adventures, little moments, new friendships, ridiculous faces and plenty of things happening that definitely weren’t on the day’s activity plan.

So while we count down to Easter Camp 2027, we’ll be digging through the summer archives and sharing some of our favourites.

We hope every kid goes home from our camps with their own superhero story. ⭐️

Watching each child exceed their own expectations is why we do this. The absolute joy and pride they feel when they overcome challenges and the confidence they gain along the way never ceases to amaze us.
