Every Detail Matters | Personalised Cricket Coaching at FCCA

At First Cricket Coaching Academy (FCCA), coaching isn't just about setting up drills and letting players practise. It's about watching, analysing and helping each player improve.

Our experienced coaches closely monitor training sessions, observing players' techniques and providing valuable advice, encouragement and technical corrections whenever needed.

Whether it's a small adjustment to batting technique, body positioning or shot ex*****on, timely feedback can make a real difference to a player's development.

It's this attention to detail and personalised coaching that helps young cricketers build confidence, improve their skills and develop good habits.

At FCCA, every session is an opportunity to learn, improve and become a better cricketer.

Improving Batting Balance, Stability & Technique | FCCA

Good batting starts with a strong foundation!

At Future Cricket Coaching Academy (FCCA), we use focused training drills to help young cricketers develop better balance, body positioning and control at the crease.

In this session, a raised platform and leg-positioning aid are used to challenge the batter's stability and encourage controlled movement throughout the shot.

The drill focuses on:

βœ… Maintaining balance and stability
βœ… Improving head and body alignment
βœ… Developing better weight transfer
βœ… Building a consistent bat swing and follow-through

It's about getting the fundamentals right and building good habits that translate into match-day performance.

Better balance. Better technique. More consistent batting.

Good luck in Australia!

Everyone at First Class Cricket Academy (FCCA) would like to wish Daniel Burton, Charlie Grant, Tom Digby and Mali Bardoi-Lewes the very best as they head to Australia for the 2026/27 cricket season.

It’s fantastic to see FCCA players taking their cricket overseas, experiencing different conditions, cultures and styles of play while continuing their development.

Enjoy the experience, make the most of every opportunity and, most importantly, enjoy your cricket.

We’ll be following your progress from back home and look forward to seeing how you all get on.

Best of luck, lads! πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΊπŸ

Building a Better Fast-Bowling Action

FCCA coach and former Sussex, Middlesex and Derbyshire all-rounder Alex Edwards takes our young fast bowlers through an important technical drill.

Alex breaks down the delivery stride, focusing on back-foot landing, front-foot contact and a strong follow-through, helping players understand how each part of the action connects together.

It’s not always about bowling more balls - sometimes slowing the action down and getting the movement right is where the real improvement happens.

How has bowling changed in modern cricket?

Last week, we looked at how modern-day batting has evolved. This week, FCCA Head Coach Raj Chaudhuri turns his attention to bowling - and why the evolution has been very different in red-ball and white-ball cricket.

In red-ball cricket, the fundamentals haven't changed much. From Imran Khan, Ian Botham, Richard Hadlee, and Michael Holding to James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Jasprit Bumrah, Pat Cummins, and Kagiso Rabada, the objective remains similar: challenge the stumps, find the edge, attack the pads, and use the short ball effectively.

White-ball cricket is a different story.

Modern bowlers have had to develop a much wider range of skills to survive against increasingly aggressive batting:

🏏 Yorkers
🏏 Slower balls and slower bouncers
🏏 Changes of pace
🏏 Different release points and angles
🏏 Bowling outside a batter's hitting zone
🏏 Developing variations to restrict boundaries

But Raj makes an important coaching point: variations should come after the fundamentals.

A young bowler first needs a repeatable action and the ability to control line and length. Once those foundations are established, coaches can start developing the variations required for modern white-ball cricket.

Train This Winter. Perform Next Summer. 🏏

**FCCA Winter Training 2026/27 starts this Friday!**

Winter is where much of the hard work behind a successful summer begins.

Without the pressure of weekly matches, players have time to **develop their technique, work on weaknesses, build on their strengths and improve their understanding of the game**.

We saw the results of that work throughout last season, with FCCA players producing some outstanding performances at **club, school, county and representative level**.

From **centuries, five-wicket hauls and match-winning performances** to players representing **Sussex, Surrey and Scotland U19s**, earning school scholarships and progressing through county pathways, we are incredibly proud of what FCCA players achieved.

Those performances don't happen overnight. They are built through consistent practice, good habits and hours of focused work throughout the winter.

**What you work on this winter could define your summer.**

# # # 🏏 Winter Training Starts This Friday

Our **2026/27 Winter Training Programme begins this Friday at Imberhorne School, East Grinstead**, with sessions running across Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
