This year’s mental health awareness week is focussing on loneliness. I’ve felt this acutely myself towards the end of the Covid pandemic period, it hit me fast and hard, I was miserable, and felt really alone in my day times when my husband was at work and I was on soulless video calls in the middle of the deepest part of winter (summer soul here).
I am lucky, I recognised the red flags and got myself out of those dark feelings and back into the light quickly. It is possible to feel lonely whatever situation you find yourself in, I work in a team, I’m married, I have a pet, friends and family close by, but yet I had those feelings. They crept up slowly then slapped me in the face one morning with a bang. That’s when I took action to make a change.
Everyone’s feelings are valid, so whatever situation you’re in, if it isn’t serving you or you don’t feel good about life, you are worthy of getting the right support. Let’s not be alone this MHA week, if you want to reach out, I’m here for you.
My challenge to you this week is to connect with someone you love, have a chat, stay in touch. Let’s combat loneliness together.
Here is a great article to refer to with lots of ideas and information too.
