Step By Step School This is a page for Step By Step School, Sharpthorne, East Sussex. We are just outside of East Grinstead.

Step by Step is a small independent day school for pupils with autism. We provide specialised teaching for Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form pupils, aged 4 to 19, who have a diagnosis on the autism spectrum. We help pupils develop the skills, understanding and confidence to reach their full potential and, as far as possible, lead full and independent lives. The defining aspect of our school is 1:1 teaching for each pupil throughout the school day based on
Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and supported by other complementary methods including:

Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)
Signing
Speech and Language Therapy
Occupational Therapy

Our fantastic and friendly team at Step by Step School is looking for a Support Assistant to join us at our beautiful Sharpthorne site.

📍 Location: Grinstead Lane, Sharpthorne
🕙 Hours: Monday to Friday, 10:00am to 2:30pm
📅 Term Time: Approximately 42 weeks per year across 3 terms
💷 Salary: Starting salary £24,109 FTE (£14,181 pro rata)

Would anyone like our Yurt?
We are having a sort out of our outside area and need to remove the Yurt, it will need to be taken down and transported by you. It has given a great outdoor learning space to our students, but a change is on the horizon.
Adrian, our caretaker had a quote to get it cleaned up and has said he will let you have that too. Collection will need to be done when our students are not in.

Our Work Experience Coordinator recently attended a conference at Sussex University to learn more about the supported internship programmes run by Ambitious about Autism. Our careers team will be running an information session in the Autumn term for parents of pupils leaving us soon on all the fantastic post-19 options available, including supported internships and supported apprenticeships.
