My name is Jo and I'm an Isle of Wight based teacher and tutor who is passionate about helping children to learn and succeed.

✨️Support for additional needs I worked as a SEN Teaching Assistant for many years before qualifying as a teacher and specialising in teaching children with Additional Needs. I cater for children with ASD, ADHD and social and emotion

al difficulties, where I use a child-centred approach tailored to their individual needs. I am the co-owner of The Nurture Cabin where we offer bespoke sessions for all learners and Home Educated children in a lovely, sensory environment. My focus is to use positive support activities and resources that help to build a child's self-esteem and sense of identity through one-to-one and small group interventions - with the aim to build on achievement and effort rather than ability. I have experience in teaching and supporting children from ages 4 to 13, engaging them in a variety of activities across the curriculum including early maths, maths anxiety, phonics, literacy and science. ⭐️The Nurture Cabin offers bespoke enrichment sessions that involve learning in a holistic way within our unique environment. Children can learn at their own pace to help develop life skills, maths and literacy.

⭐️We incorporate our lovely outdoors into sessions with support from the Cabin's dogs Ponyo and Bailey.

⭐️The children can enjoy calming and mindful
sensory sessions that include:

✅️ Exploring our beautiful outdoor area of woodland and farmland

✅️Outdoor learning and the introduction to Forest School skills

✅️Cookery

✅️Gaining number sense

✅️Support for maths anxiety

✅️Early learning, phonics and fine motor skills

✅️Social and emotional support activities to build self confidence

⭐️We also offer after-school booster sessions for KS1 and KS2 maths and English.

Food was incredibly tricky but I was fortunate as my parents were relaxed and accommodating with this. My diet consisted of mainly salad cream sandwiches, crisps and pancakes. They never grumbled about my lack of vegetables, they never complained when I didn’t finish what was on my plate.

When I was anxious then food was what would stop.
I wouldn’t eat, I couldn’t eat.
New places, different food brands, the pressure to eat in front of others.

I could go for ages without it.

But home where the pressure and judgement were off, that was where I could eat.
No comments, no commitment.
Just what I liked, when I needed it.
