One of my favourite parts of tutoring is watching children realise maths can connect to real life instead of just feeling like random numbers on a page.

A parent recently messaged me to say their child’s attitude towards maths had changed massively because the lessons felt more real and understandable to him.

That meant a lot.

I think many children understand maths far more deeply when they can actually see where it fits into the world around them.

Not every child needs maths to feel exciting all the time.
But feeling comfortable with it changes so much.

Especially for children who previously thought maths just “wasn’t for them”.

One thing I hear from home educating parents a lot is:
“We don’t want maths to become stressful.”

And honestly, I agree.

For many families, maths works best when it feels manageable enough to keep returning to consistently.

That’s why my Maths Momentum membership is built around supportive teaching videos and practical activities rather than huge chunks of work.

Families can dip in and out around real life.
Repeat lessons when needed.
Go at their own pace.

Some use it as their main maths support.
Others use it alongside everyday maths, projects or other resources.

There’s no pressure to “keep up”.

Just gentle structure and support there when you need it.

I think one of the biggest struggles with maths at home is not usually the maths itself.

It’s knowing what to cover next.

A lot of families start with good intentions, then end up jumping between worksheets, websites, videos, games and ideas they’ve saved somewhere along the way.

Then maths slowly becomes inconsistent because nobody is quite sure what the plan is anymore.

That’s actually one of the reasons I created the Maths Momentum membership.

Not to recreate school at home, but to give families a calmer sense of direction.

A clear place to start.
Short teaching videos.
Practical activities.
A structure you can keep coming back to without spending hours planning everything yourself.

A lot of families reach a point where they want maths at home to feel a bit more structured, but without bringing pressure or a “school at home” environment.

That’s exactly what I’ve been building behind the scenes with Maths Momentum.

Over the next few months, I’ll continue growing the core lessons and activities families are already using, creating a bank of support that’s easy to come back to week after week.

From September, the membership will then grow further with:
• extra starting point videos for children who need to build confidence more gently
• challenge videos for those ready to go a bit further
• simple, real-life maths ideas and activities linked to each topic

The aim is to make maths feel more manageable, whatever stage your child is at.

Something flexible that you can dip into, come back to, and rely on when maths needs a little more structure again.
