Following a successful transition to high school,
I have a 1-2-1 session coming available in our learning suite in Earby.

It really doesn’t surprise me when parents opt to take ownership of their child’s education, and I applaud their courage to do so.

Far too often, I’m told, “Excluding X just isn’t helpful,” or “Why don’t the teachers get him/her?”

This them-verses-us attitude leads to an increasing dislike of school, fear even, lack of trust, lack of confidence, lack of self-belief… How can a young person (especially one who has additional needs) thrive within such a negative environment?

Sadly, mainstream schooling too often focuses on forcing square pegs into round holes.

With the removal of so many Specialist schools over the last 20+ years, our children who simply do need a more personal approach to their learning are being failed.

Over the years, I’ve supported many such students to believe in themselves again.

We have nurtured a culture together where they want to showcase what they CAN do, and in which they understand that mistakes are a necessary part of their own success.

When I meet a failed student for the first time, their body language says it all: head down, no eye contact, shoulders slumped….

I make sure my students sit up straight, proud of who they are, and that they smile again😊

For parents of ALL youngsters especially those heading in to year 10/11 in September, please look at your young person’s Summer report regarding current and predicted grades….

If you’re not sure school is ensuring that your child is reaching their true potential or is borderline grades 3/4, please don’t leave it to chance!

As a tutor, there is nothing more frustrating than either saying “I’m sorry, I’m fully booked” or “I wish you’d contacted me sooner!”

Myself and fellow tutors are here for you, but we need time!!!

We can’t fix 10 years of struggling, lack of knowledge or confidence overnight!
