Uley Under 5s

Uley Under 5s Uley Under 5s Playgroup is a preschool in the beautiful village of Uley. Last year's sunflowers and potatoes were a great success!

Uley Under 5s Playgroup is a childcare setting for children aged 27 months to 5 years old, helping them to prepare for the big wide world of school! Based in Uley village in the heart of the Cotswolds, surrounded by the towns of Cam, Dursley, Nympsfield, Horsley, and Stroud; Uley Under 5s Playgroup provides sessions throughout the week in a busy and community-oriented environment. Alley Under 5s P

laygroup has been providing childcare in and around Uley for more than 50 years. Children at Uley Under 5s Playgroup have the opportunity to explore the countryside around the hall on guided walks with the staff, visiting many local areas of outstanding beauty and natural interest, as well as our local community shop and post office, church, and excellent village school. Preschool-aged children benefit from an additional session per week, as well as numerous visits to the reception class and chances to engage in school activities such as the nativity, harvest festival, summer picnic, and sports day. We are lucky enough to have regular access to the community orchard, where the children are able to grow their own plants and flowers. If you'd like to know more about our Playgroup, or (even better) want to pop in for a visit, please give us a ring or contact us using the form on our website www.uleyplaygroup.co.uk

Just a reminder that this is tonight. If you would like to come, please do pop along or contact us if you are unable to attend but would be interested in either
- opening a child care provision for under 5s in the village
Or
- being part of a trusteeship.
Thanks

Hello All,

As you know last November, having exhausted all avenues we made the sad decision to stop providing childcare at Uley Playgroup. We are now looking at closing the Charity that supported this - however, before we start this it is necessary to hold a Special General Meeting to which all members an interested parties are invited. At this we plan to discuss:
- if anyone would like to take over the trusteeship of Uley Playgroup with a view to providing early years care in the village
- what to do with funds and assets if we are to close (this will be governed by our constitution)
- any further ideas
We are holding this meeting on 16/05/2024 at 8pm in Uley Village Hall. If you would like to attend it would be great if you could let us know on [email protected] but equally if you don't email it is fine to simply come along.
Thanks

Hope youโ€™re all having a lovely half-termโ€ฆweโ€™ll still have our lovelyโ€˜conkersโ€™ available to play with when we come back, but stay tuned for more info on the โ€˜adventuresโ€™ we have planned for next termโ€ฆ and some VERY exciting news! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Autumnal Play...
Today I collected conkers. I love autumn and seeing the children's little faces as they collect their natural treasures, such as, acorns and conkers. These activities are often rich in possibilities opportunities and learning for children and this includes lots of mathematical learning.
We may here children beginning to apply simple subitising skills, this is recognising arrangements of number and objects. For example, "I have 3 and 2 conkers!" and seeing those patterns/numbers in their play. Often children learnt to recognise amounts without counting (subitising) alongside learning to count. In the past few years there has been a growing interest in learning to subitise and the impact it has in deepening children's mathematical understanding. We can encourage children to subitise by rather then asking them to count how many? Instead saying "tell me what can you see?" and modelling subitising in play.

Ever so many sleepy leaves, upon a tree one day,
When it was time to go to rest, wanted to stay and play!

โ€œWhy should we fall to the groundโ€ they said โ€œout of the sun so bright?โ€
So when the Mother Tree shook her arms, each little leaf held tight.

โ€œOh please come and help me, Mr Windโ€ whispered the Mother Tree
And with a rush and a puff he came, whistling merrily.

And by and by, when the big red Sun said โ€œgood nightโ€ in the west,
Ever so many sleepy leaves lay on the ground at rest.

Wishing you all a restful weekend too (and hope your โ€œsleepy leavesโ€ sleep well tonight! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ๐Ÿคž)

Today I painted...
Sometimes learning is messy, children need opportunities to get messy. To learn through all of their senses, to experience those tactile experiences. How can we ever learn to make the colour green, if we have never experienced it?

Unfortunately due to staffing issues tomorrow Friday 20th Oct, we will be closing at 12pm. (Parents, check your WhatsApp msgs for details).
