Physical theatre by young artists for young audiences

After such a long break from Prema’s programme, we’re truly delighted to welcome back live dance theatre into our programme.Simile is a bold new performance created for young people, by young people, and performed by the wonderful company from Highly Sprung.

Inspired by the Worlds and Lives GCSE set-text poetry anthology, it fuses physical theatre, dance, spoken word, and raw emotion to explore what it means to grow up today.

What does it even mean to grow up in 2026? How are you supposed to figure out who you are when the world keeps shifting? Wars raging, ice caps melting, endless scrolling, and, oh … there’s a poetry exam in twelve hours!

Family ticket is for 2 adults + 2 kids (or equivalent)

Last shout for Methera tickets

Here’s your 24 hour countdown for tomorrow night’s gig from the ever-brilliant Methera.

Methera is a meeting of musical minds. Four individual musical characters with different stories to tell; the cohesive structure of the string quartet gives Methera a freedom to indulge in tradition and rebel against convention. The tunes they choose to play, both traditional and newly composed, are full of gentle enchantment.

A perfect evening which is equally suited to a seasoned chamber music audience and those with a passion for traditional and folk music. This is properly exquisite music which needs to be heard live. Only fifteen tickets remaining, don’t leave it too late!

Please note that we are currently unable to process cards at the arts centre and so if you’re a last-minute merchant and plan to buy on the door (a) we can’t guarantee there will be any available and (b) you’ll need to pay in cash. We’d therefore heartily recommend booking in advance via our website (again, PayPal is down but card payments are working just fine).

Meet the artist and the Prema/Tyndale collab

This weekend, exhibiting artist Richard Edmunds will be at Prema, hanging out in the main gallery and using the space as something of an impromptu studio space for the weekend.

Richard’s main themes within his paintings are based around buildings (although not exclusively) - particularly old and abandoned ones. Age gives a wonderful patina to the corrugated iron, wood, brick and stone. Nature envelopes and reclaims these spaces. By painting these abandoned areas, he is documenting their physical existence before they are (often) lost to all but memory.

Richard, a Dursley resident, was keen as mustard to maintain his affiliation with the splendid Tyndale Arts Trail for 2026 and so we’re delighted to be one of the venues this weekend.

In the showcase gallery (ground floor) we have the work of Nigel Williams, a UK sculptor and photographer who creates original artworks from wood & metal as well as photography & image manipulation

Please note that the opening hours for Vestry Cafe are Saturday 9am until 4pm where you can catch the exhibition from painter Susie Cornwall. Vestry will not be available on Sunday.

Free studio and residency at Prema

It’s that time again. Prema is seeking proposals/applications from artists who are a critical or tipping point in their creative careers. We’re seeking for an artist to join us for an 18-month residency, through which you’ll be given unlimited access to a rather splendid ground floor studio here at Prema.

The studio will be offered FREE to the right artist/maker on an 18-month contract with all costs (heating, lighting etc) included. By offering spaces free of charge, we hope that our resident artists are able to really focus their time and creative energy on developing their studio practice and business. 📤✂️📎📌

The studio measures 3.65m x 2.8m (that’s 110 sq ft in old money) and would suit an artist working across most disciplines. We’re especially keen to hear from makers just starting out on their creative journeys as well as those who need some time and resources to perhaps explore a change of direction. 🆓

Closing date for applications is Friday 23 October 2026 with interviews taking place shortly thereafter. We anticipate that the artist will commence their residency almost immediately and would expect the artist to be working on-site at least 3-4 days every week. Please forward this on to any artists you think may be interested in this remarkable opportunity.

We are seeking detailed expressions of interest from artists. To apply, please send:

Dresser display from artist Sarah Richards

Have you visited us in the past few weeks? If you have, you’ll have been enraptured by the gorgeous autumnal extravaganza which has taken over our dresser in the conservatory.

Each of these beautiful handmade felted pieces comes from the end of the needle of artist Sarah Richards and her creative company I Felt Fantastic.

The display includes so many of your favourite critters and pretties - from pumpkins to pandas, Highland cattle to our beloved red squirrels, toadstool vignettes and honey-bee flower gardens. So many to choose from - which will you choose?

Sarah is running a wonderfully festive workshop “Needle Felt a Penguin Family” in which you’ll learn all about needle felting, how to transform wool roving into your basic shape and then use a barbed needle to create the features and effects. Ideal for creating a new handmade dec for the tree or maybe a gift for someone potty about penguins.

2 week countdown for applications!

Here’s a quick reminder that Prema would love to hear from artists and craft-makers who might like to take a stall at this year’s fabulous and much-celebrated Christmas Crackers events. We have space for up to 21 artists to sell their work and anticipate a footfall of well over 600 people, eager to buy original and affordable artist-designed & made items to give as gifts this Christmas. 🎄🎅🌟

Artist Richard Edmunds’ main themes are based around buildings (although not exclusively) - particularly old and abandoned ones. Age gives a wonderful patina to the corrugated iron, wood, brick and stone. Nature envelopes and reclaims these spaces. By painting these abandoned areas, he is documenting their physical existence before they are (often) lost to all but memory.

Richard moved to Dursley in 2009 and has been documenting through photography, drawing and painting the built and natural environment in the surrounding area. The Lister factory at the bottom of Long Street in Dursley was a particular favourite subject, before it was demolished.

He started his studies at Jacob Kramer College of Art in Leeds back in the 1980’s and went on to working in Theatre as a scenic artist and eventually moved into the field of stop-frame animation as an art director. Over the years he has worked on productions ranging from ‘Bob the Builder’, ‘Pingu’, ‘Shaun the Sheep’ films as well as the latest Wallace and Gromit film, ‘Vengeance Most Fowl’.

He continues to work at Aardman Animation in Bristol, alongside his drawing and painting.
