This morning the children collected sticks from the garden and brought them inside to create their own clay hedgehogs.

They've also been using natural resources in their playdough making - adding juice from orange segments as well as cinnamon and star anise... it smelt great!

What a busy week we've had understanding more about the world around us and beyond!

We've watched the launch of Artemis 2, talked about the planets and the moon and used cardboard boxes as rockets in imaginative play.

We've also played with starry night sky playdough and shared the story "Whatever Next?"

A copy of 'Gruffalo Granny' was kindly donated to the setting - thanks very much!

The children adored listening to the story which also prompted lots of activities during sessions. Children gathered and examined various ingredients for their own Gruffalo stew. We then cooked and tasted the vegetables, noticing how each ingredient altered after cooking.

Later in the day the stew was added to the mud kitchen where children began making up their own stew recipes!

Other activities included paint stamping with apples and of course lots of fun in the garden!

Lots of garden exploration this week - searching for minibeasts and working together using different resources to create tunnels to crawl through.

Collaborative play continued indoors where children chose to create a giant painting of what they'd found outside.

To further develop communication skills, we've been introducing children to various Makaton signs, including 'more' and 'snack' and using signs during story time too.
