💦Water Safety💦

As part of the National Water Safety Education Pathway, we’ll be introducing water safety learning in nursery for our children from the age of 3.
The National Water Education Pathway provides age-appropriate guidance to help children develop the knowledge, skills and awareness they need to stay safe around water.

What will we be learning?
Throughout the year, we’ll be building children’s foundational water safety awareness through fun, age-appropriate activities, stories, discussions, role play and practical learning.

We’ll explore things such as:
🏊 How to float and what to do if we find ourselves in water
🩱 What to wear in and around water and why appropriate swimwear and buoyancy aids are important
⚠️ Recognising dangers and understanding that water can be unpredictable
🌊 Different types of water – swimming pools, paddling pool, hot tubs, baths, beaches, rivers, canals, lakes and ponds
👀 How to behave safely around water and why we need to listen to our grown-ups
🤝 Staying close to a trusted adult when we are near water

Our aim is to help children enjoy water safely, recognise potential risks and develop good habits from an early age.

A little reminder for families this summer

With holidays, trips to the beach and days out near rivers, canals and lakes, summer is a particularly important time to talk about water safety at home too.

For young children, close adult supervision is essential around water. When you’re near canals, rivers or other waterways, talk to your child about staying away from the edge and hold their hand.

Remember:
👋 Always stay close and hold your child’s hand near open water.
🚶 Keep children well away from the water’s edge
🏖️ At the beach, follow local safety advice and stay within designated areas.
🏊Use appropriate flotation and safety equipment and remember that buoyancy aids do not replace adult supervision.
👀 Talk about water safety regularly so children become familiar with simple safety rules.
📍 Make sure you know where you are if you need to call for help. Around waterways, useful location information can include road names, bridge numbers, landmarks or what3words.

If a child falls into open water, do not enter the water yourself. Call for help and dial 999, asking for the Fire and Rescue Service or Coastguard if near the beach. If it is safe to do so, lie down and reach towards the child using something that can extend your reach, such as a branch or item of clothing.

Water safety is something we can all teach together. By starting these conversations early and reinforcing them regularly, we can help our children develop the knowledge and confidence to enjoy being around water safely.

We’ll be sharing some of our water safety learning with you throughout the year, so you can continue the conversations and activities at home too!

🐝Big Toddle - Thank you🐝

We have raised a Grand Total of
£5,642.86

All children and their families were invited to join in our annual sponsored walk by dressing up as TV and Film characters!!

This year we raised money for Young Lives Vs Cancer.
Young Lives Vs Cancer is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families. Their specialist care teams can provide practical, emotional and financial support.

For a bit of context, the money raised could pay for 4 families to spend 50 crucial hours with a Young Lives vs Cancer Social Worker. Right from the moment of diagnosis, they’re ready to jump in with their empathy and expertise ensuring families are given support tailored to their individual needs. They help families to understand and come to terms with what’s happened and what’s still yet to come.

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone that joined us on the walk and made the day such a success. We were blown away with the effort from both children and parents with their wonderful costumes. We would also like to thank everyone, your generosity has been incredible!!

🐝💛 Our Busy Bees are ready to fly… 💛🐝

This week is one of the most emotional weeks of our year here at Busy Bees (Durham) Ltd.

Some of our little Busy Bees are leaving us this week, and others will be spreading their wings over the summer as they begin their exciting new adventure at school.

It feels like only yesterday they were taking their very first steps through our doors, and now we are watching them leave as confident, kind, independent and curious little people. We have had the privilege of watching them grow, learn and flourish, and we couldn’t be prouder of every single one of them.

Over the years, we’ve shared so many special moments together—first friendships, endless laughter, messy play, story times, celebrations, adventures in the garden and so many precious memories that will stay with us forever. We’ve watched them overcome challenges, discover their own personalities, build confidence and develop the skills that will help them thrive as they take their next big step.

Our Busy Bees family is such a special place, and every child leaves a little footprint on our hearts. Saying goodbye is never easy, and there will definitely be a few tears, but they are tears of pride. We know they are more than ready to spread their wings, embrace new experiences, make lifelong friends and continue their love of learning.

To all of our amazing school leavers, thank you for letting us be part of your journey. Thank you to your wonderful families for trusting us with your precious children and allowing us to share in so many unforgettable milestones.

As you watch our special video and listen to the beautiful poem, we hope it reminds you just how loved each and every one of our children is, and how incredibly proud we are of everything they have achieved.

Good luck, our little Busy Bees. Keep dreaming, keep smiling, keep believing in yourselves and never forget—you will always be part of the Busy Bees family. 💛🐝

We will miss you more than words can ever say, but we can’t wait to see all the amazing things you will go on to achieve.
