DUKE OF EDINBURGH 🥈

Huge congratulations to our resilient Year 13s who officially completed their Silver DofE Qualifying Expedition!

After having their original expedition rescheduled due to the summer heatwave, they showed incredible patience, adaptability, and determination to get back out there, trek, and cross the finish line.

They’re now on the final stretch and on track to complete their full Silver Award by the end of this year. We couldn’t be prouder of their grit and teamwork - well done, team!

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR TALENTED STUDENT!

Amelia Wright is a current Year 13 Photography and Fashion & Textiles student here at DSFC. She has had one of her photographic images, ‘Everyone passes through here’, accepted as part of the Baltic Open Submission 2026 in the Youth Open Call category. 📷

The open call asked practicing artists and young people to submit work which included painting, sculpture, photography, video and more, and consider the theme of 'Local'.

Last Friday her work was displayed at the Gateshead gallery, alongside up to 100 other works. The exhibition will run for six months.

RAINBOW 🌈

An impressive rainbow sunset was on display last night, which marked a successful evening of connecting with our Year 12 students, parents and families. ✨

Thank you to everyone who joined us and for making it a great event.

Thanks to Senior Progress Tutor, Gemma Ross, for capturing the photograph.

POETRY BY HEART SUCCESS 🏆️

This morning our three Poetry by Heart school finalists Caitlin, Carys and Daniella received their certificates from the National Competition. Their entries were praised by the judges, with Daniella selected as a National Finalist, ultimately winning this prestigious competition. We are very proud of all three students and their entries into this competition, a celebration of their unique voices and poetry that speaks to them.

FRESHERS FAIR 🎉

Last week, our Freshers Fair gave students the chance to discover the many opportunities and support available beyond the classroom!

From local organisations and charities to essential services, students could explore volunteering opportunities, wellbeing support, career advice and exciting community projects.

A brilliant opportunity to find something new and get involved in life beyond their studies!
