What l wish l'd known?
It is very competitive to get into Marketing, to get ahead of the rest you should:
1) fully research what marketing is, and what area you want to go into eg:
- agency or client side?
- Market to who: consumers or businesses?
- What type product or service do you want to market eg toothpaste, cars, events, online dating or oil?
2) Gain work experience where possible, before applying for graduate jobs.
3) A relevant sales job can be a great way of getting into Marketing.
4) Use your application form/interview to market yourself. Research for what the employer needs, and work out how your experience and skills best match this. Don't be modest.
5) Be persistent - you'll find a way of getting there if you want it enough!
Please do email me if you have any questions you can't get answered elsewhere!

If anyone who attended the event yesterday could take two minutes to write a recommendation on this page (there is a box to the right of this message), this would be greatly appreciated to help with publicising any events in the future and letting students know how you found the day and what you wish you had known before..

Thank you to everyone who attended the Careers & CV Workshop yesterday; it was great to see so many faces and on behalf of the returning Grey Alumni, we thoroughly enjoyed meeting you all and hope you found the day useful for your future career plans.
As we mentioned, we are in the process for finalising plans for a 'mock assessment centre' day in Feb/March 2013 and will be releasing details for this event nearer the time.
Remember to check out the Business Angels Website and for a copy of the presentation from yesterday workshop, get in contact with Maddie Leaf (JCR Careers Rep).
We look forward to seeing you soon,
Andy Sparrow,
on behalf of the Grey College Alumni Team
