Hi everyone!

Hope you are all doing well and are looking forward to the start of Easter Term! With restrictions slowly starting to ease, Voices and GCCO are going to start holding rehearsals again! Here is all you need to know:

Rehearsals will be held at Collingwood's Mark Hillary Theatre every week - Voices on Thursdays (starting on the 29th April), GCCO on Tuesdays (starting 4th May). Rehearsals will run every week throughout term but there is not pressure to turn up if you are busy with exams etc! The aim for these rehearsals is to get people back into having fun, singing and making music with friends!

There will also be new COVID guidelines implemented this term for rehearsals. Up to 30 people are now allowed to meet indoors due to government derogation, and each rehearsal will have a sign-up sheet to monitor attendance. Social distancing will also have to be maintained throughout the rehearsal at all times. Lateral Flow Tests will have to be taken twice a week by all members wishing to attend, as recommended by the University. Evidence of two recent negative Lateral Flow Tests (i.e. within the past week) will have to be submitted in the sign-up sheet by screenshotting the results and attaching them to the sign-up sheet. Currently, we can only accept LFT results from testing sites such as those at the university (i.e. we can't accept evidence of tests that you take at home). However, if you come into any issues with providing your results this way, please feel free to contact Josh Powell at [email protected] or via Facebook. Your results will be kept for 3 weeks alongside our registers, in line with GDPR regulations.

Other than this extra step, rehearsals will continue to be held just as they were during the first term - make sure to scan the QR code when you arrive!

We are absolutely buzzing to start making music with you all again and we can't wait to get going! To find out more about Voices and GCCO, please visit the Collingwood Music page and find the ensemble highlights - make sure to join the relevant Facebook groups to receive news on rehearsals etc!

See you all soon,

CCMS exec

ENSEMBLE HIGHLIGHT - CCMS Outreach

Leader: Veer Gala ([email protected])

Every week, we get a taxi to Durham Gilesgate Primary School and teach music. This can range from playing games with Year 1’s to teaching music theory to Year 6’s. The school does not have any other formal music teaching and the school has children with various hearing disabilities, so the teaching we give them really makes a difference!

COVID-willing, we still plan to make our sessions in-person. We will, however, have constant discussion with the school, so that we can keep both volunteers, and Gilesgate Primary, safe.

To join, you don’t need to know much about music theory. You just need to be committed, and willing to get involved with some teaching (we’ll ease you in)!

If you want to be involved with CCMS Outreach this year, make sure to show your interest by signing up using the QR code!

ENSEMBLE HIGHLIGHT - Grey Collingwood Chamber Orchestra (GCCO):

Leader: TBD (If you feel this position is right for you, make sure to email [email protected])

The orchestra is non-auditioned, which aids in making every rehearsal a fun, friendly way to enjoy music and make friends at the same time'!

There are plenty of social events and concerts throughout the year both at Grey and Collingwood!

Our repertoire ranges from transitional pieces, to more contemporary scores such as Michael Giacchino's "Up" and Justin Hurtwitz's "La La Land"!

If you want to be involved with the GCCO this year, make sure to show your interest by signing up using the QR code!
