Today's horse is Nancy.
Nancy is a 17.2hh KWPN and is 14 years old.
Nancy came to Houghall in June 2026 so is our newest addition to the yard. Her owner bought her as a young horse from abroad, she has been produced for dressage but has also turned her hoof to some jumping in the past.
Nancy has been out and about a lot travelling to shows, staying away at shows and in temporary stabling which helped her settle in so quickly when she came.
Having had a dressage focused life means that Nancy is very well schooled and can perform lots of lateral movements, we are lucky to have her here.
Nancy is going to be a great addition to the team and we think she will have a lot of fans!

Today's horse is Milo!
Milo is a 16.1hh Anglo European and is 12 years old.
Milo arrived at Houghall in October 2025 and was over the moon when he saw his old friend Ginger as they used to be on livery together before they came here.
Milo's owner bought him when he was just a foal (yes that foal in the pictures is Milo!), he has had a varied life so far including lots of hacking and beach rides!
Milo had been out of work for a year before he came to us, we got him back in work slowly and carefully and has been a great addition to the yard.
Milo is great to ride, lunge and use for care sessions too, he is a well-rounded horse who many people love.

Today's horse is Bill.
Bill is a 15.2hh cob and is 11 years old.
Bill came to Houghall in November 2025.
Bill has had a go at most things in his life time, including cross country, dressage, showing and he even pulled a wagon to Appleby when he was younger!
He is a very cheeky boy but always willing to please, nothing concerns him and he is not spooky.
Bill is great to ride and loves hacking out and jumping, though can have some steering issues some times!
Bill loves to be groomed and is great to be used for any type of session, maybe apart from plaiting as he is hogged!

This is Star!
Star is a 14hh, 7 year old Connemara pony.

Star came to Houghall in 2024 and had been competed lightly in dressage and show-jumping before he came here. Star is owned by the same family as Mini Jack and Arthur who will be in a later post.

Although still young, Star is a great part of the team at Houghall and is great for every aspect of riding, lunging and care sessions.

He is a very calm and gentle boy which makes everyone love him!
Star's sire won the M&M showing class at Olympia in 2018, so he has very good bloodlines!

Today's horse is Oreo!
Oreo is a 15.1hh cob who is 17 years old.
Oreo is owned by an ex-student and came to Houghall in September 2024.
Oreo has had a life with many owners so we don't know a lot about his past but we do know in one of his previous homes he did a bit of everything and loved being ridden by children in that home.
Oreo's current owner has lessons on him every few weeks and is loving starting jumping.
You need to follow the instructions on Oreo's door as to how to catch him because if he is not tied up before you enter, he may escape past you and off to the field, especially if some of his friends have already been turned out for the night!
Other than this, Oreo is great to ride, very quiet and docile, he loves to hack out, but does not like to be lunged, he will plant his feet and refuse to move.
Oreo is a very handsome boy and is loved by many.
If you have any pictures or memories with Oreo please feel free to comment below. 🦄🌟

Today's horse is Violet!
Violet is a 14.3hh Clydesdale cross and is 9 years old.
Violet came to us in September 2022 on loan, she had been backed and ridden away the year previous to that but had been left for a while so we re-backed her here and she's been a great addition to the team!
Violet is great to be ridden by the more experienced rider as she can be very enthusiastic about her work, especially jumping, which she loves! She is a fabulous lunging horse and can be used for care sessions, plaiting etc. She can be a little shy when being rugged and tacked up so as long as you go slow she will appreciate that and stand no problem.
Violet is a favourite among many students and staff as she always tries to please and is very pretty.
If you have any memories or pictures of Violet please comment below 🦄

Today's horse is Ginger.
Ginger is a 16hh Irish Sports Horse and is 17 years old.
Ginger arrived to Houghall in 2023 and is owned by an ex student who started university down south.
Ginger is a very pretty boy who loves to be groomed and is great for care sessions including plaiting, bandaging, rugging up etc and has a lovely attitude.
Ginger has sensitive ears so needs to have a staff member to put on his bridle or an experienced student who knows how to take it apart slightly to put it on correctly so the head piece doesn't have to touch his ears.
Ginger doesn't get used for jumping sessions with students due to a lack of confidence but is great on the flat and to lunge!
Ginger used to live with a horse called Milo at his old home, who then also came to join the team at Houghall recently, he will be featured in an up-coming post of his own.
If you have any pictures or memories with Ginger please leave a comment below 😁
