Browney Academy

A group of our children had a great time at our Rights Respecting afterschool club.

They visited our local community garden, run by Browney Residents Association, and got stuck into the garden, making scarecrows for the flower and vegetable beds, watering the soil and pulling up weeds to help everything grow. They also went bug hunting to find out
more about nature.

The best part was seeing the teamwork on display! The children shared tools, helped one another, and looked after the garden as a team.

Afterwards, the group linked our visit to the following Rights Respecting articles:
✏️ Article 29 (Education): Learning how to grow food and protect the environment helps children develop their skills and respect nature.
✏️ Article 15 (Joining Groups): Working in a team helps children learn from others and build a
stronger community.
✏️ Article 31 (Relax and Play): Bug hunting, exploring the garden, and playing outside are great ways to relax.

What a successful Careers Week we had! Our children enjoyed meeting a fantastic range of guest speakers from a huge variety of backgrounds.⭐

Our pupils had the wonderful opportunity to learn from and ask brilliant questions to:

These visits really made our children think deeply about their own futures. Through these sessions, they
gained a valuable understanding of the different educational steps and career paths needed to reach their
goals. Most importantly, our speakers shared powerful messages about life and work: to follow what you are
genuinely interested in, to aim for happiness, and to truly enjoy your job. The children learned the
importance of being resilient, working hard, staying focused, and always having high aspirations. ⭐

North East Learning Trust Athletics Festival 2026!✅ Yesterday a group of our children headed to Gateshead International Stadium for the annual competition.

Team Browney competed against other Trust schools in a range of track and field events, and came away with a bunch of medals for individual performances!

It was a fabulous day and we are so proud of our superstars!⭐

Our Early Years children had a fantastic time on 'beach day'!🏖️☀️

To celebrate their success this academic year, the children competed in team water games, walked the plank, paddled in the pool, explored the sand area and even used Mr Wright for target practise. Their favourite part of the day was definitely eating ice cream!🍦

A group of our pupils had the phenomenal experience of visiting the Houses of Parliament in London last week.

The group enjoyed a private tour of the Palace of Westminster and were then allowed to observe a debate in the House of Commons! They learned about the rules and procedures of the House of Lords and the House of Commons in a workshop, and then visited our Local MP who was working in parliament that day. It was a spectacular day from start to finish, travelling around the city, seeing some historic sights and making memories that will last a lifetime. The pupils represented our school brilliantly everywhere they went. 🤩

Our Year 1 pupils were very excited to enjoy a Read Write Inc dress up day, in recognition of all their hard work and achievements in phonic this year, as well as their fantastic effort during the Phonics Screening Check.🤩

The children came dressed as their favourite sounds, wearing imaginative costumes and bringing creative props. The day was filled with phonics games, challenges and a sound parade, proudly showing off their knowledge and hard work. With temperatures soaring, everyone enjoyed a refreshing ice lolly to help cool down in the afternoon. We are incredibly proud of the children's enthusiasm, confidence and hard work - true phonics superstars! ⭐

What a fantastic night at Durham Dash! Last night a group of our children from Years 3-6 took part in sporting activities against other schools in the area at Beamish Museum. The children were outstanding from start to finish, showing real determination and resilience throughout every event. They also demonstrated excellent sportsmanship by cheering one another on and congratulating each other after the races and fielding competitions. We are extremely proud of them all!👏

A special mention to Alfie and Harrison, who came first in the Year 4 and 5 boys’ running heat. Haven also performed brilliantly, achieving 3rd place in the Year 5 girls’ fielding event. Their effort, teamwork and enthusiasm made the evening even more memorable.

Thank you to all the family and friends who came along to support the children. Your encouragement meant a great deal and helped to create such a positive atmosphere. It really was a wonderful evening!🤩

Staff fundraising challenge 2026 complete ✅

There was laughter, tears, and a whole load of bruises - but they did it together! Team Browney and Middleton-in-Teesdale took on the scrambles, boules and sheer drops across Bowfell, Esk Pike, Scafell Pike and Great End. They even added a fifth peak - Allen Crags!
