Delighted to welcome Peter Walker Sculptor to Chad’s today and to show him his statue of Chad in situ in Lightfoot Garden.
Really interesting to hear more about the work of this incredibly prolific and versatile artist.
You can see his Time by Luxmuralis illuminate Durham Cathedral this week 7-11 October.

A few more of the Chad’s Matriculation celebrations yesterday!

Our new students were woken by the sound of pots and pans and were enthusiastically greeted, at the end of their Matriculation ceremony in the cathedral, by a sea of green Freps lined up along the Bailey to welcome them home through the Green Door 💚

One of the most wonderful days of the year!

Today we officially welcomed the next generation of Chadsians at University Matriculation in Durham Cathedral. It was particularly special to be addressed by current Callum Hendry and Chad’s student Callum Hendry

The ceremony was followed by our College Matriculation photos and lunch together.

Tonight in Chad’s, our “From Imposter Syndrome to Belonging” meal. Powerful speeches - honest, gritty, reassuring, inspiring - from Mwambu, Katie, Yonal & Ayesha & some really thoughtful comments from our new students.
Chad’s is full of a wonderful variety of people, in terms of nationality, class, sexuality, ethnicity, academic subject, politics, faith, gender. It’s a place we hope everyone feels welcome and at home. And takes the opportunity to make unlikely friends & learn more about what the world looks like through as many pairs of eyes as possible.

Thank you so much to Katy, Luis and Ben who delivered Community Workshops today alongside our Vice Principal, Victoria. The sessions covered issues around respect, consent and community values and were attended by all new first year students.

It was great to see such fantastic engagement, learning and a bit of laughter too as they covered difficult and challenging subject matter. The talks are followed by the UG Perspectives event tonight…see you all there at 6pm!

Thank you to our fabulous team of freshers’ reps & staff colleagues for helping with the big move in, and well done to all our new undergraduates for navigating college matriculation & Freshers’ Formal so beautifully!

We are blessed with a wonderful team of pastoral tutors at Chad’s - volunteers who help to mentor our students and add another layer of belonging and friendship in our college community. Here are some of them this evening at our pre-term tutors’ welcome & induction evening - all eager to meet their new students.
