Last night, colleagues from across the Banks Group joined businesses from across the region at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art to celebrate the inaugural North East 250, recognising the strength, ambition and resilience of the North East’s leading privately-owned businesses.

We’re delighted to see the Banks Group included in the ranking, and there was something particularly fitting about being placed 50th in our 50th year.

Since 1976, we’ve been proud to call the North East home. Over those five decades, our business has evolved and grown, but our commitment to the region and its communities.

It was fantastic to spend the evening alongside so many other businesses contributing to the North East economy through investment, employment and continued growth, and to celebrate what private enterprise across our region continues to achieve.

A memorable way to mark another milestone in a very special year for the Banks Group.

Congratulations to Durham Cricket on a successful 2026 season, with the men’s four-day team being crowned champions of Division Two of the Rothesay County Championship and sealing a return to Division One at the first attempt after beating Middlesex at the Banks Homes Riverside earlier this month.

Durham Women finished as runners-up in the Vitality Blast Women competition, while the men’s 50-over team just fell short in a nail-biting Metro Bank One Day Cup semi-final against Middlesex.

We’re pleased to be continuing our support for Lifeline Harrogate 💚

The funding will help the charity run its fortnightly lunch club for another year, bringing current and former residents together with staff and volunteers to enjoy a home-cooked meal, share experiences and support one another.

Lifeline Harrogate provides accommodation and ongoing support for people experiencing homelessness or vulnerable housing across the town, helping them build towards a more secure and independent future.

We’re proud to continue supporting the important work they’re doing in the Harrogate community.

🎓 Supporting the next generation of designers

A few weeks ago, we were delighted to welcome Grace, an Architecture student from the University of Strathclyde, to Banks Group for a week of work experience across a range of our teams.

During her time with us, Grace gained valuable insight into different aspects of the business, spending much of the week working alongside Stephen Moyna, Senior Technical Manager, learning more about the design and technical processes that bring new communities to life.

Stephen said:
"It was a pleasure to be part of Grace's work experience. She was really engaging throughout the week, and I hope she pursues a career in design within the housebuilding industry in the future."

Dan Matthews, Group Learning & Development Manager, added:
"Supporting young people at the start of their careers is incredibly important to us. Work experience provides a valuable opportunity to develop skills, build confidence and gain a real insight into the industry. Grace embraced every opportunity throughout the week, showing enthusiasm, professionalism and a genuine willingness to learn, both in the office and on site. We hope the experience has given her a strong foundation for the future."

This prestigious recognition from Deloitte celebrates excellence in strategy, innovation, culture and business performance, placing us among just 19 private businesses across the UK and three in the North East to receive the award in 2026.

In our 50th anniversary year, and following 25 years of Investors in People accreditation, this achievement is a testament to the dedication, expertise and commitment of every colleague across the business.

🌿 Celebrating 50 years in Yorkshire at a truly inspiring venue.

As part of our 50th anniversary celebrations, we were delighted to host our Yorkshire reception at Horticap in Harrogate, a charity we've proudly supported for many years.

From helping fund new learning facilities and nature trail improvements to sponsoring a new electric van, we're proud to play a small part in supporting the incredible work Horticap does to empower adults with learning disabilities through horticulture.

A huge thank you to the Horticap team for their warm hospitality and to Alan Titchmarsh for his surprise video message, which made the occasion even more memorable.

Here's to continuing to invest in the communities and organisations that make Yorkshire such a special place.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our recent community consultation events in Great Ayton.

It was fantastic to welcome local residents to view our emerging proposals for a new residential development to the west of the village and hear their thoughts firsthand.

The feedback we've received will help shape our planning application before it's submitted to North Yorkshire Council later this year.

Our vision is to create a thoughtfully designed neighbourhood of up to 130 sustainable new homes, including 30% affordable housing, alongside generous green spaces, biodiversity enhancements and homes that meet a range of local needs.

We look forward to continuing to engage with the community as the project progresses.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at yesterday's community consultation event for our proposed Sunniside development.

It was great to speak with local residents, answer questions and hear valuable feedback on our emerging plans for a new neighbourhood of up to 210 sustainable homes to the south of Sunniside.
