Double beaded pillars or boxing’s don’t need to be overworked!

👉 In, out, in, out — then straight across to flatten off. Build it out evenly the first time, then flatten it off in one clean pass.

Use a bigger trowel so you can pull it up in one go, anything wider I use my spatula and use it like a darby to flatten it off.

Result:
• No metal showing
• No hollows
• No curves
• Minimal plaster for second coat

Most lads are fixing problems they created on the first pass.
Do it right once, and the rest becomes easy.

Less mess. Less time. Better finish.

Extra Time can save you or sink you 😅
Everyone asks about retarders — but if you don’t understand how they actually work, you’ll end up with white patches, drag marks, 7 trowels and a long painful set.
It’s not about loading the mix… it’s about control, pressure, and timing 👊
People add more retarder thinking it gives them “longer” — but more doesn’t equal better.
It can actually stop the set from warming up, meaning more passes, more pressure, more effort, and a finish that fights you the entire way.

Think of it like building a snowball ❄️✋
The more pressure you apply, the tighter and smoother it becomes.
Plaster is the same — you need that pressure window to compress it flat.
If your mix is still overly wet from too much Extra Time, you lose that window…
and that’s how a 4-trowel set turns into 6 or 7 and half your day is gone.

This is how I hit massive sets solo, start around 7:30 and finish by mid-afternoon — because I’m not relying on heavy retarders.
I use control, timing, and a system that works with the plaster instead of bullying it.

There’s a method to using Extra Time properly.
A balance. A rhythm. A skill.
