Hi all,
What do you you wish you knew before you took the module?
For those of you who may remember, last year we asked students to give their honest reviews of maths modules, we then collected these reviews and sent them to maths students to help them to choose their modules for next year.

Due to popular demand we are doing the same again this year and need your help. We have put a google form together for you to fill out in your own time, Please fill out the the sections for the level and module you completed and let us know your true thoughts. The more opinions the better!!!

Google form: https://forms.gle/8EAFKuD8Zk63QAEF7

These reviews are completely anonymous so please don't be afraid to tell the truth if a module/lecturer was particularly good or bad. We want to hear from you. Help others so we can help you!!!
I am aiming to have these reviews ready for reinduction on Monday 3rd June so please take your time.

Well done for completing the first week of exams and good luck for the rest of your exams, believe in yourself. YOU'VE GOT THIS!
Thank you so much for taking part and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!

Elizabeth
Publicity officer

Thank you for filling in this form. Last year, we got you to review modules that you took in an anonymous survey. These responses are completely anonymous and non-identifiable so please be as honest as you can. Help other people so we can help you! All responses will be compiled into a word document...

Colloquium and cake is back for 2024!

Next Wednesday, the amazing Katie Gittins will give her talk asking can we hear the shape of a drum? 🥁

Imagine a bounded region in the Euclidean plane with fixed boundary, that is a drum. If we knew all the frequencies at which this drum vibrates, would we be able to tell its shape? Or are there two drums with different shapes that vibrate at the same frequencies?

The celebrated paper of M. Kac “Can One Hear the Shape of a Drum?” posed this question in 1966. In fact, problems related to this question had captured mathematicians’ attention since at least the work of Rayleigh in the nineteenth century and they continue to inspire the field of Spectral Geometry today.

In this talk we will explore some of the fascinating results about hearing - or not hearing? - the shape of a drum.

We can’t wait to see you all once again in the TLC101 at 2pm! It will be fantastic! 🎂🥁
